Being young and libertarian is terrible for picking up women. This is the biggest challenge for young men who aren't left-leaning.

One of the biggest challenges for young men who aren't left-leaning isn't the lack of access to literature that their teachers boycott (which is true), nor the lack of jobs when they graduate because their schools boycott them (which is also true), but rather the lack of young female students who sympathize with the libertarian or right-wing (almost an insult) position.

The programs where you find young libertarians (economics, business, engineering, and the like) have very few women, and those that do have them aren't very interested in intellectual conversations and politics. The breeding ground for girls who enjoy intellectual conversations and politics are programs like psychology, literature, social sciences, education, and the like, all left-leaning.

And then the problem arises: when libertarians get together, there's a severe shortage of women, which is always a tragedy. And when a lot of men get together to have profound conversations without a woman around, everyone looks like Sheldon Cooper. Without women, everything gets boring at some point. How do you solve a serious problem like this?

I'll repeat, because I know highly philosophical questions are difficult to understand: the biggest challenge for a young libertarian student in Brazil is picking up women (at university and elsewhere), while being a libertarian. Of course, personal charm, friendliness, intelligence, money, and cultural repertoire are always important factors, but the left has one point in its favor that is indisputable: if you're left-wing, picking up a woman is the easiest thing in the world. What's the left's secret? It's being festive.

The other day, talking with a friend and colleague who is quite well-known (so I'll protect his privacy), we came to the conclusion that the right (libertarian, of course; I'm not talking about people who enjoy torture, okay?) desperately needs to find its festive face.

The festive left (which is almost all of it) reproduced itself because it had so many women at its disposal. Imagine conversations like: "My love, free yourself from the oppression of women's bodies!" Now, imagine you're in a social sciences office late at night, or in an apartment with no one around. Some cheap wine, maybe a joint? Some cool music, a big picture of Che (that fancy murderer) on the wall.

Or imagine you're saying to a pretty girl something like: "Capital starves children in Africa!" Even though she's a young woman hardened by the battle against the oppression of women (which is why she desperately tries to be ugly), your heart will overflow with tenderness.

Imagine the energy of a riot! Arms linked or not, but walking and singing. Imagine the escape, running away from the police together. Hearts beating together!

And of course, imagine you two at the college bar (skipping class, because those who attend class don't get women): lots of beer, lots of vows of revolt against social injustice, lots of quotes from Marx and Foucault.

Or, even more sophisticated: a documentary film festival in Cuba! My God, could there be a better paradise to meet girls who "own their bodies"?

Since the earliest prehistoric populations, it's been known that without alcohol and conversation (that's why we learned to speak, otherwise only girls would speak), humanity would have disappeared because more than half of the girls wouldn't want to have sex—especially when they discovered the pain of childbirth.

The channel for a festive right is: talk about freedom, human suffering, bodies, discuss documentaries, say that life has no meaning but that beauty exists, don't dress like Sheldon Cooper, travel to Iceland, and (for God's sake!) don't talk about economics. Girls shun economics, that "sad science," because it gets in the way of the joy of life.

Or pray for Brazil to become Venezuela and then the libertarian boys will pick up all the girls.

I know: they'll say I'm saying we discuss intellectual conversations just to get women, but, sorry, that's exactly what I'm saying, at least in part. I woke up today in a Darwinist vibe. Sorry.
