I experienced what it looks like to be free from racism when I traveled to Switzerland. I‘m black and I was in all kinds of parts in Switzerland, even the very rural ones. Everyone greeted me when I walked by on the street. Both children and the elderly. When I asked some middle aged guy for directions he invited me into his garden and gave me grapes from his grape tree he seemed to be very proud of. I‘m not saying Switzerland doesn‘t have any racism. It probably does, but that‘s probably the closest to the real deal I‘ve ever had. It seemed like being black was a complete non-factor. It‘s unlike other Western countries where racism manifests socially in various ways but it‘s covered up with the typical slogans and denial.
