maybe we read different stuff but all the fanfics and romantasy I have ever read had basically the same heterosexual dynamic regardless of gender. this is, there is always a sadistic top and a masochist bottom regardless of genitalia

like, what's the difference between a harlequin novel from the 80s where an old guy physically and mentally abuses a young woman and an omegaverse fic from this week where a big guy does that but to another male. the tropes, cliches and genres have become so streamlined I could probably write romantic slop without ever even stating the gender of the characters
