So, 'beria. What is your final verdict?

Was he correct? Were his actions morally justified?

How can you justify spending money for a space program when there still are starving children?

You must answer the question to make a new thread. See the last field.

He runs a cool Youtube channel. I know someone posted here that got radicalized through it

His obsession with geopolitics is what made him tragic, it's the same reason the more obviously hateable booj characters are the other villains of the story. It's why his final defeat was being unable to assassinate the Lunarian girl that was removed entirely from geopolitics. The political side of the story is handled much better in the manga imo.

One of the central points of the story is that space is so very very big and we are so very very small, his obsession with making sure everyone is happy on earth is that it might only be through the perspective of space that humanity might finally realize that it's just us, and we're all we've got, to quote another comic.

How does the manga differ significantly?

Well for one Hachimaki leaving for Jupiter is only the first half, the second half is him on his way, which I love. It's a much better setting for his existential crisis that occurs in the latter parts of both versions. More to my post though it just shows more of the political machinations, there's a lot more emphasis on the space mines and Kessler Syndrome. While Hachimaki is on his way to Jupiter, Fee becomes a rebel and pisses off the US government. The anime still deals with much of that in the abstract, but unless I'm misremembering (likely, I haven't seen the anime in a good number of years) it's a lot more brushed over in favor of Hachimaki's training and his relationship with Tanabe. If you liked the anime I'd highly recommend reading the manga, you can get the whole thing in just two moderately sized omnibuses.
