One thing that helped me with that sort of stuff was talking to Jehovah's witnesses. They're good practice for social skills because they want to talk to you and they generally try and keep conversations going as long as possible, but you also learn how to say no to people even if they're very insistent. You don't have to talk to JWs specifically, any missionaries and whatnot will do, but they're good practice even if you're not religious.

I'm sure plenty of people do, but I've personally never done it. I usually just take a pamphlet and they usually initiate the conversation and I try to steer it to more personal stuff.

If you live in an urban area you can usually find them on any public square on saturdays with little stroller type things that have a bunch of magazines and pamphlets and stuff just standing there. If you see something like picrel then that's them.

A few months ago I started doing something like this, I would approach people at the gym, library, etc and talk to them about anything. Literally every time I had a good interaction and they were friendly but I stopped doing it
