Can a comrade help a newbie socialist DEBOONK this? It comes from a tweet from an official Russian government account talking about how the USSR improved the economy of the Baltic countries, but then people posted these

Let's suppose the ussr wasn't particularly great at production. So what? I don't get why I should be so invested in the ussr when there are better examples of economic central planning in the modern day.

>better examples of economic central planning in the modern day
like what?

Short answer,
GDP is a very unreliable calculation for national economies. A kilogram of rice in PRC and USA do not contribute the GDP same amount of dollars even though being the same commodity, an another seen phenomenon is that inflation contributes to GDP as it increases the prices in the economic circulation.

The reliable way for economic calculation is going the soviet way of recording the volumes of the commodity that is produced, and by the overall production, PRC's economy is actually the biggest in the world.

Also Baltic states:

Latvia, a disappearing nation
January 5, 2018

Since it joined the EU, the country has lost one-fifth of its population.

To be sure, economic migration is not the only reason for the country’s declining population. The small Baltic republic’s comparatively low birth rate and high mortality rate are also contributing factors.

“Borders are open, information about life in other EU states is available and everyone is doing it. So, off our young people go to England or Ireland or Germany” — Aleksandr Rube, journalist

>don't let people leave shithole for decades
>they all have kids in said shithole
big surprise!
>finally let people leave shithole
>everyone that can leave, leaves.
even bigger surprise!

People pointing to the population decline in eastern Europe as evidence of soviet socialism being successful must be retarded. There's better arguments you can make and examples you can point to.

>>691867
What's a good indicator of a country's economy then? The USSR didn't have much GDP per capita but pretty much everyone had a house, unlike nowadays

>>691852
Gross domestic product is not an arithmetic for measuring quality of life.

>>691865
I'm gonna be called a radlib for this, but China's. Although I agree that it should be much more centralized than it is…

If the "independent" Baltics are so good, why are people leaving? Why aren't people having children? Why does Lithuania have one of the highest rates of suicide in the world?

communism is when you improve the GDP

>>691931
> the evil communists invaded killed my grandfather jsut for being in a political group (SS)
>they left us with homes healthcare infostructure and education
> communism is so evil

imagine getting all of that and being so fucking ungrateful

>>691938
Communism didn't benefit everyone.
I had teachers who had family growing up in eastern Europe at the time of communism.
They weren't involved with Nazi shit at all.
They all said communism was terrible

>>691943
fucking same bro half my family is from Yugoslavia and you know what SHIT HAS GOT WORSE

i live in fucking Australia and lived half my life homeless cause of fucking capitalism something that would have never happened under soviet style communism

Those are probably facts, anon. Gl mfing debunking that

>>691931
Because their are that glorious anon, all the depopulation is freedom actually.
>but they were being hecking held there
none of these people would exist if the USSR didn't exist, the 30 years of liberalism capitalism showed only misery on every post soviet nation.
>>691943
Personal experience can be lied upon with far more ease than data, another soviet individual could also say they suffered for being lazy criminals and more.

GDP is just an arbitrary measure of commodification.
Anybody who think it measures the 'quality of life' is retarded.

They are true but this has less to do with communism and more with lack of international trade.
You can go to the US in the 70's and 80's, periods which the right constantly glazed (mainly because they were primarily gen X and were kids during these periods) due to the fact that you can easily buy houses back then but no one quite remember just how shit quality of life is, products are scarce and basket of goods are generally expensive. The massive growth we had in the last thirty years is literally caused by globalism coinciding with Nixon financializing the US dollar, allowing the creation of indefinite debt to finance consumption

true

>GDP is just an arbitrary measure

Two economists are walking in a forest when they come across a pile of shit. The first economist says to the other “I’ll pay you $100 to eat that pile of shit.” The second economist takes the $100 and eats the pile of shit.

They continue walking until they come across a second pile of shit. The second economist turns to the first and says “I’ll pay you $100 to eat that pile of shit.” The first economist takes the $100 and eats a pile of shit.

Walking a little more, the first economist looks at the second and says, "You know, I gave you $100 to eat shit, then you gave me back the same $100 to eat shit. I can't help but feel like we both just ate shit for nothing."

"That's not true", responded the second economist. "We increased the GDP by $200!"
