I don't know if it's acceptable but I think class has a lot to do with animosity. Many Indians are more upwardly mobile PMC than other immigrants and they compete for white collar jobs. The state can't get rid of them like the much lower class "illegals" because they are shielded by h1b visas. This probably pisses off white people. The other problem is that upper caste Indians that typically make it into the U.S. often have a reactionary caste mentality which puts them in a weird camp where progressives don't really want to fuck with them because they lean ideologically conservative and Conservatives won't ally with them because of obvious reasons. Indians also have an oddly strong lobby in the form of the United States India Political Action Committee that no one really talks about. Of course there are exceptions to this and I wouldn't say that Indians are inherently reactionary or that there aren't downwardly mobile lower class Indians that reside in the U.S.
