why the fuck do most artists and fandom spaces have “dni”s on their bio? for those who don’t know, dni is just short for “do not interact”, which is stupid
like for example, i came across a monster hunter artist, seconds later decided to follow her. but when i click on her profile for more art. she had “proship/zoo dni”. last time i checked pro ship just means anti harassment when it comes to fiction. and it feels like they’re sympathizing with people who abuses animals too (since moralfags and normies think paraphilia and fantasy = abuser and action = attraction)
came across an another one who’s also a MH artist with the same dni but this time with “mdni” which literally just means minors do not interact but when i clicked on their profile there’s nothing pornographic about their art at all
i don’t have social media anymore but i never understood this arbitrary concept of preventing certain individuals from following you under the disguise of (its boundaries) which is literally just discomfort and people who easily get offended and upset not using the block button more often since they wont be bothered reading your profile and just instead, click follow and move on, or use your art as their profile pic and background
>>697269I've already read MDNI as a way of covering their ass a little, at least for their own morality. No one can accuse them of creating porn consumed by minors or being an 18+ account that minors interact with if they have MDNI in their bio!! For non porn artists like that one, there might be more of an element of being worried about talking about something adult with a minor. It's like the "do not try this at home" of twitter artists.
Or maybe it's just because kids are stupid and have stupid shithead opinions. The immortality discourse that cropped up right before I quit xitter half a year ago or so still keeps me up at night sometimes, kids are so fucking dumb.
Also proship/zoo dni means they're a definitely a moralfag that thinks drawings are real, you should "NI" with that user.
Fandom does not mean being a fan of something. Fandom refers to a group of adults creating and consuming romantic (also known as “shipping”) “smut” (p*rnography) content based on a handful of commercially-produced intellectual properties catering to the Teen Demographic.
Although these intellectual properties are marketed to 12-16 year-olds, fandom “spaces” are NOT for teens. This is because when minors are in fandom spaces fandom adults cannot comfortably share their Shipping Smut, due to Purity Culture.
The relationships in this shipping content may feature 2 or more canon characters (that is, characters created by people outside of Fandom) or a mix of canon characters and “OC’s” (characters created by someone in fandom). However, if you make shipping content that contains ONLY original characters, what you have created is not fandom but “mainstream media.” This means that the rules of fandom etiquette such as “ship and let ship” and “don’t like don’t read” no longer apply to people who consume your work. You made the mistake of, for example, creating a webcomic with 5 readers that earns you $0.84/month and now your fandom is free to harass you for ruining their comfort characters and head canons. Also, do NOT complain about people making smut out of your OC’s as you will get a lecture about the Death of The Author
But the good news is, even if everyone is making smut out of your OC’s, at least your name & likeness will be left out of it, right?
WRONG. You, the non-fanwork content creator, are now a “public figure,” making your private life fair game for RPF (real person fan fiction), which hopefully you will never see unless one of the billions of internet users unfamiliar with fandom etiquette sends it to you.
So, in conclusion, fandom is a joyful and creative space for anyone over 21 who wants to get into endless arguments about which cartoon characters are *** each other
>>697271>Or maybe it's just because kids are stupid and have stupid shithead opinions. The immortality discourse that cropped up right before I quit xitter half a year ago or so still keeps me up at night sometimes, kids are so fucking dumb.Adults are the ones who make a lot of the drama.
Kids are not allowed to enjoy or interact with anything without adults wanting to pathologise them for it.
>>697272Teens do engage and create romance/smut stuff as well.
>>697305 exactly this. most adults tend to police drawings and they always have been doing this since day one in niche communities and rabbit holes. not minors. and they oftentimes tend to have dnis on their profile as well. that probably explains why fandoms where believed to be much more reactionary today compared to now (if you ignore social media and the loud fascist minority).
minors who police drawings or have dnis were either groomed, an older man irl pretending to be a child online, or chronically online (due to many factors).
otherwise most minors don’t care about discourse at all whatsoever and don’t live on the internet compared to most adults unless they’re socially inept because of the pandemic and quarantine forcing kids to also stay inside or whatever. also most fandom spaces back then were created and populated by minors
>>697272most fandom spaces were oftentimes created and populated by minors back then before the whole entire gamergate stuff and rise of cringe culture too. nobody needs to follow the arbitrary american age rule of “21+” to engage in fandom spaces or other online communities
>>697416This.
Alot of stuff made for kids is almost always hijacked by adults for their nostalgic purposes and they then bring their politics into there.
And alot of fandom spaces were created or populated by kids just doing fanfics and whatnot but then adult fans wanna harass them for being "cringe".
>>697416>otherwise most minors don’t care about discourse at all whatsoever and don’t live on the internet compared to most adults unless they’re socially inept because of the pandemic and quarantine forcing kids to also stay inside or whatever. also most fandom spaces back then were created and populated by minorsThis is also another paradox I notice as well.
People complain about kids being online too much yet I see more adults occupying online spaces for more of the day and often getting into toxic shitflinging contests.
Kids often go online to watch funny videos for play their favorite games or read fanfics.
Adults cannot even allow that to happen in peace.
>>697422Fair point.
But for real, these same boomers are the ones who enjoy way more fucked up shit or are just plain old miserable and are venting their adulting frustrations onto a children's entertainment space
>>697447>Like actually just annoying, almost always reactionary opinions and they're annoying to argue against. It's not their fault, thwts part of being a child and I was certainly no different, but I don't blame anyone that doesn't want to bother attempting to argue with one.And again, those are mostly adults doing that.
"It's part of being a child it's not their fault" is moral projection
Even if that's true, how does it explain adults doing the same shit but even worse?
>>697494Then what do you mean?
Because I see more drama and stupidity from the adult camp.whe it comes to fan stuff than even kids.
>>697419yep and now the adults in question complain about how fandom used to be good and wish when they weren’t harassment in fandom spaces even though they constantly stir up drama and harassment in spaces made for kids. the same children who were harassed also became adults who are moralfags and dragged discourse into fandom spaces or started shaming minors for not being pure enough as well
>>697421>Kids often go online to watch funny videos for play their favorite games or read fanfics. Adults cannot even allow that to happen in peace.this reminds me of the edgelords from the borny community originating from 4chan who thought it was okay to traumatize young gen z girls and millennials. and fight be weird about a kids show and their merchandise or products. i’m not surprised if those edgelords in the brony community are the same adults who complain about kids being surprised. i feel like the gen z girls and millennials who were traumatized by them grew up to be angsty ageist adults that recycle misogynistic talking points from the edgy side of the brony community as well (considering the fact bronies pretty much originated from 4chan).
modern day fandom adults who hate kids remind me me of disney moms or adults or harry potter fans but 100x more worst
>>700158I think it's just the logical result of trying to cram everyone of every age into a single platform rather than the archepeligo approach of fedi.
I still have my year of birth in my mastodon bio despite being on an instance that already has a "must be 18+ to register" clause and thus that'd already be clarified. I just figure it's context someone might wanna know when talking to me, similar to pronouns and stuff. Like someone can know I've been around to see something after 1999 first hand, but not something prior to it.
>>700162No, though maybe that's a twitter thing. Twitter seemed to get distilled into a caracature of itself since all the chill people left to fedi and bluesky.
>>697425like
>>697440 said DNI existed in the early 2000's, the biggest reason was so minors don't interact with them because having minors in any form reduces the bar of what sites and blogs could do, it was the 18+ signal of the time.
but today it's mostly people wanting to call atention about how they hecking reject a group, the worst is that some of these DNI search for the groups they don't want to interact to bitch at them.
>>700182And minors have made a lot of worldly stuff back then as well.
>>701927>>700175Now you understand why public schooling sucks.
Kids are all placed into the same settings by virtue of age rather than ability
