since roblox is getting sued by the US government and other overseas governments soon for allowing predators on their platform

what are you guys opinion on roblox and its community? i remember finding it enjoyable when i was kid, and created a new account on 2019, two or three years after creating my first one. i didn’t use roblox much but after picking it up again this year for a game called forsaken. i realized how dry roblox is and how awful the community and player base are to the point it even unironically attracted moralfags. i assumed it is due to “advancedl games on roblox such as doors and pressure attracting those kind of people ever since then. now the only time i will ever play roblox is for 3-5 games and thats it. two of the games being napoleonic war themed games and that is it. im reverting back to my older interests too because i didnt enjoy roblox much compared to when i was younger. i think the fanarts and the arts the roblox players create are neat but that is it

Even if there weren't any predators, the game itself runs on unpaid child labor.

good fucking riddance, its nothing but watered down slop imitations of whatever was popular at the time but filled with microtransactions for every little fucking thing

>le labor in the abstract
>child labor is when kids make literally anything
tone down the hysterics and liberal vagueness

>>700391

how is it child labor if the people get paid? yes some games imo like forsaken would be considered child labor but not all games are made by kids. the roblox community really fucking hate kids too for regarded reasons despite being the platform being marketed towards a younger audience

>>700394

liberals don’t even know words like “fascist”, “nazi”, “child labor”, etc it’s actually insane

bump

heres a new rule if you dont know the subject matter dont comment on it. do you even know what roblox is?

i remember enjoying it a lot when i was smaller, i would play this one game where you had too build a base in a plot and then survive waves of zombie attacks that was really fun, i remember all the cool cosmetics were locked by paid currency. anyways i haven't played it in over a decade and barely paid attention to anything going on in its community but occasionally see controversy flare up around it.

My pc kept bluescreening when i tried to play it as a kid and minecraft was blowing up so i never really got into it. My brother's kids play it nonstop and the shit they play on it baffles me.

i know its not child labor

are we going to call children making memes online child labor too now

Is stinging pedos on roblox effective?

at least choose examples that do generate value like roblox does

Most Roblox games are just a monetised rip-off of user-created Gmod game modes/servers, which themselves are usually a rip-off of other games, usually whatever happens to be the current FoTM.

I have no idea why people play it over Gmod, especially since both use Lua to develop stuff.

Excellent artistic output from a community stuck in a burning garden wall. It shouldn't be a centralized platform. So many of the good games made on it should've been standalone games.

The reason it's infested with predators is because it's centralized, making it both impossible and a non-priority to moderate it adequitely to prevent dangerous situations.
Centralized sites at it's scale shouldn't exist because centralized moderation doesn't scale.

MineCraft doesn't have this reputation because servers are self-hosted. Individual servers can have this reputation, Large MineCraft Youtubers have a track record of abuse, but not the game itself. Choosing to be a centralized platform instead of a simply a game / framework for platforms like MineCraft is makes Roblox solely responsible for it's community, which from day one had skeptics thinking that would lead to the situation we have now, and they were right.

>>701547
No because it doesn't change the underlying material conditions that made such predatory behavior possible.

>>701565
This.
"Stings" don't really work.
All it does is make a spectacle.

>>701565
What are the underlying material condition?

>>701581
The existance of supermassive unmoderatable platform like roblox. If these stingers actually wanted to put an end to it they'd help build a server-based alternative or the Godot engine or something. They don't though, they know sting operations are an infinite well of content.

>>701563
>I have no idea why people play it over Gmod
Well for one it's free and doesn't require you own a bunch of valve games.

>>701600
Recently GMOD added the CS: Source assets natively, but dunno if they've done that for TF2 et al. yet.

>>700394
I mean the kids are producing commodities that they don't reap any of the profit from for server owners and the roblox company itself. although tmk is localizied to specific servers and gamemodes. Good teachable moment for the parent anons explaining capitalist exploitation to there kids I suppose.

>>701564
interestingly discord is a centralized (at least compared to older web forums) but with decentralized moderation between servers and still has a massive reputation for being a hotbed of online grooming.

>>701609
Well with discord it seems like being a centralized platforms means they both can't decouple from said guilds, while accepting they can't zap every guild caught slacking / nonenforcing of the rules, so the platform provides protection to the undiscovered cases zebra-herd style. Whereas with the MineCraft example the individual server is it's own platform. Abuse can happen, but action can be taken without Mojang needing to be personally responsible for it.
