Speaking of this, my friend works in a luxury department store in London. There's a conspiracy of these rich kids who get each other temp summer jobs, and they openly talk to each other about how their goal is to do as little work and steal as much shit as possible. Imo, not all shoplifting is equal.
If you steal a car or any essential/industrial item, it should not be tolerated.

But luxury items, especially if they're the easily disposable kind, it should not be criminalized.

Also, IMO, stealing candy bars is obnoxious.
It should not be treated with jail time but rather with indefinite bans.

Imo, shoplifting should only be allowed for homeless.
And even then, only essential items. People who have a roof over their heads and food in their fridges do not have a right to steal
