Why do people still bother with trucks when these things exist?

How do you think those things make it off the trains?

>>702477
magical portals?

>>702477
Cranes?

Private transport companies is why. Train infrastructure is by and large maintained by railway companies, while with trucks the cost of road repair is usually handled by the state.
>>702477
Also this, because nowadays few industrial plants are willing to invest in a direct connection to the railway network.

Big ass crane to get it from the station to intended destination

yeah like this

ideally you maximize what trains are good at, super heavy hauls, but this leaves you with mile-long trains that are impractical to have stops for everywhere, so you move things from dedicated depot to depot, then trucks from depots to final destinations.

however the real answer is money.

>Let's make train stops at every 7/11 in the Doritos delivery driver's route
Sasuga, anon

>>702474
>dude train lmao
Those vodka chuggers couldn't even build a proper rail system lol

Trains = socialism
The more trains the more socialist a country is
Trucks = capitalism

Any kind portruding beam and that guys head would've turned into an exploding watermelon

>>702802
Anything protruding out that much would have already hit something.

>>702477
>build smaller trains next to the big train
>offload big train onto smaller trains
>build everything that needs cargo next to smaller trains
>offload smaller trains into buildings
Why not something like this?

>>702553
Alternativily, move all the 7/11s to be allong an existing rail.

>>702856
Such infrastructure would be both overly complicated and cost prohibitive. It sounds neat if you've played a lot of engineering games, but there's a reason we just use trucks.
>>702857
Similar answer really.

>>702474

Because in America we are blind to only see what makes billionaires more money.
