What material and societal factors explain modern pop culture's weird obsession with the spawn of Porky AKA nepo babies and rich kids?
I remember how much the Hilton sisters and a handful of other porky spawn were everywhere in the mid-2000s. Granted, that was a time when American culture was pretty right-wing overall and the general public enjoyed admiring rich socialites who did nothing but look pretty for the paparazzi. Today, the nepo baby obsession is everywhere. It seems like every other Hollywood movie or TV series stars at least one descendant of a famous star. Look at Lily-Rose Depp, Maude Apatow, Dakota Johnson, etc. The music industry, likewise, is saturated with nepo kids and has been for a while now, especially in the indie scene where you have to be a nepo kid in order to get your foot in the door in the first place.
The logical answer is that movie studios and record labels pimp these piglets because they had the connections. But that's only half the story. Notable nepo babies who don't exactly act or make music are also influencers on IG and TikTok with follower counts in the hundreds of thousands. Obviously, it's not just that the gatekeepers in the entertainment industry are forcing nepo kids on us, it's also that audiences keep buying into it.
So what's the explanation for this? Why do "everyday" people care so much about the children of the rich and famous to the point where said children are able to make careers off of it?
>>704617The people who unironically believe Gekyume will be a rapper are fucking retarded.
In hip hop, you’re expected to be authentic. Every single word in your rhymes is supposed to come from your mind and your mind only. That’s why rappers get so much shit when it’s discovered they use ghostwriters. Nepo babies like Gekyume are the polar opposite of this. These kids have been groomed from birth to be culturally relevant people. They grew up surrounded by industry people (or people with affiliations to industry people) and already had managers and marketers crafting their image, style, and sound before they started making music. They never had to create tor develop their own unique style or musical sound on their own. Gekyume is a child Fashion Nova model already, right? He’s already signed to a talent agency. He and these other hip hop nepo babies like Jaden Smith were born with their feet firmly planted in the door. That’s industry shit not soul-of-the-culture shit.

Also "authenticity" doesn't matter. There's a ton of conscious underground hip hop that's super authentic but it doesn't get listens because it's not about the money hoes gangster drugs tropes that the record industry pushes because it's sensational
>>704617Most people don't have the time to become a full time influencer.
Being the child of a revered person gives you a competetive edge in social media nonsense.
Who cares though?
