You do need to read. It is an extremely insightful topic. I once heard Freud describes as basically a 22th century thinker, society still isnt ready to accept his findings. Dont listen to insecure brainlets telling you how everything they dont understand is actually bullshit and not worth learning.

And also, Freud was not dropped, he is a foundational figure of modern psychology, his sucessors neutered and dulled him to bring his theories in comfort with bourgeois society.

Just read Lacan: A Beginner's Guide, it's like 200 pages long and it'll give you more insight than even what a typical psych major has. This is because psychoanalysis is bullshit and useless, but still. Also I suspect all lacanians kind of wing it with Lacan's graphs of desire, they're absolute nonsense.
