1. fundamentally flawed understanding of how anonymous imageboards work and should be moderated
(their primary virtue isn't "free speech", it's having zero barrier to entry. the best ideas will not rise to the top naturally just because people can't appeal to social status like shii said in his stupid essay (they just make up stupid shibboleths to detect outsiders). fundamentally imageboards are a random noise generator that you then curate by purging the bad stuff, creating evolutionary pressure for good stuff. this requires mods with good taste, not consistency. "containment boards" are a moronic idea because by definition you're curating something bad.)

it went wrong when it came back after going down the last time. 4chan needs to die so that a new ecosystem of western imageboards not built on its stupid culture can flourish. the imageboard format is impeccable, but *chan culture is irredeemable.

if moot had a spine things could've been at least slightly different. better moderation, less obsession with free speech and more with anonymity (an inability to namefag outside of maybe per thread tripcodes), no containment boards which just attract people you don't want, firm enforcement of site and board rules. moot tried to have a spine when gamergate happened (too late) and then sulked away crying at the community's reaction
