Why was he so paranoid and terrified of being overthrown? Did he know his rule and policies were super unpopular?

He had a persecution complex because he was an ethnic minority.

He was a liberal and moralist that managed to get put in charge of a revolutionary vangard, of course he knew people hated him.

Because he wanted all of the power for himself so he could carry out his vision. Although many positives were made such as successfully industrializing the economy turning Russia into a manufacturing powerhouse and destroying the Nazi Regime. He did do many bad things like deport minorities, starve Ukrainians and (Unintentionally) starve many others do the failure of accelerated collective farming. So I would say that Stalinism doesn’t work.

I mean considering the amount of infighting in the bolsheviks and RSDLP while Stalin was coming up a young activist that might just be how he thought politics worked in general. Like some weird mirror version of 1st world libs who think politics works like the west wing since electoral farce is all they know.

Stalin did not want power. Stalin was elected by proletarian democracy. Stalin's achievements were not merely the result of his vision, but practical application of scientific socialism.
>Although many positives were made such as successfully industrializing the economy turning Russia into a manufacturing powerhouse and destroying the Nazi Regime.
You concede the greatest acts of liberation and achievements in human history and call them "positives."
>He did do many bad things like deport minorities, starve Ukrainians and (Unintentionally) starve many others do the failure of accelerated collective farming.
You say fascist myths. Stalin did no bad things. The kulaks starved themselves and threatened to starve everyone else therefore the socialist transformation of agriculture was a tremendous success.
>So I would say that Stalinism doesn’t work.
Wrong. "Stalinism" is a slur against Marxism-Leninism. Marxism-Leninism always works. You know this so you lie. You are a fascist parroting the fascist Khrushchevite-Brezhnevite line.

whats funny is with the great man theory around stalin all the CPSU members who did actually fuck up during the famines and are arguably more responsible than stalin get off scot free. I bet a bunch of the people clapping at the secret speech were the same people who dropped the fucking bag when trying to handle the famines of the 20s.
