What do you think about the Stalin statue that was erected last May?
For context the Russian government last may erected a statue of Stalin in a subway station. Not because Russia is currently a communist country but rather for 3 different reasons: #1 Because Russia nearly had global hegemony under Stalin, #2 to appeal to China because China likes Stalin because without him they wouldn’t exist, and finally #3 as a way to piss off Ukraine because the current Ukrainian government hates Stalin and their State Department makes a tweet every year on the anniversary of the Holodomor, the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, you name it. So basically what are your thoughts on it?
Here is my opinion:
Stalin was a mixed bag of a person who did many good things and many bad things, and no I don’t think he was liberal. I don’t think you should erect statues of him but I don’t think you should tear down existing ones either because he did do some good things unlike all of the confederates who have statues in the American south.
