How do you dress? What are you wearing today? How should you dress, as a Marxist? Which trends are proletarian and which are bourgeois?
Discuss.(On leftypol_archive board 4 now. Will be moved to alt_archive when built)

>>2221
I'm currently wearing Black Combat Boots, Baggy Jeans, a white undershirt with a tshirt on top with the California Flag on it, a cotton and polyester weatherproof jacket and my plastic brimmed glasses. That's my get up most days. Jeans (lined ones as well cause the weather is awful in the Midwest), Boots of some kind, and usually a button up shirt or t shirt with alot being V necks.

Trick question. It's bourgeois to care about fashion trends in the first place.

>>2231
It's bourgeois to care about bourgeois fashion trends, but fashion existed in socialism, feudalism and even primitive communism, so it's not inherently bourgeois.

My typical daily attire or similar.

I look for durable and practical clothing made from natural fibres. Sometimes I make my own clothing but I only make/buy new things as I need, repairing when possible which it usually is. Lucky enough to have been taught to sew as a child. Recommend learning how to at least repair busted seams and holes, sew patches properly, etc. I avoid anything obviously branded unless I can remove it, including graphic prints of any kind. Shoes are the exception to my branding rule, and size 16E makes it harder to even try so I get what I can get.

I draw elements from people I have known and admired, in that way a lot of my clothing choices are purely aesthetic. The long coat and overalls combination I took from one of my earliest Marxist mentors. I put care into my appearance without concern for fashion trends or a conscious attempt to look one certain way. Avoiding more than I'm striving for.

>>2232
Yes. All current trends you'll see pretty much start from bourgeois fashion companies. I believe it's an open secret that fashion trends are often planned years in advance. Capitalist trends change frequently so as to be exploited. Spring fashion, summer fashion, fall fashion, winter fashion, back to spring fashion but it's different this year and you need all of it as it comes out. Trends from non-capitalist societies tend to be longer lived and are often more varied(because how much variation is there really in contemporary clothing?), evolving naturally over longer periods of time. No specific trends are inherently bourgeois or proletarian, aside from maybe clothes made for practicality and labour that haven't been incorporated into bourgeois trends. But then can they still be considered fashion?

I'll keep dreaming of the people's Yeezys.

This workwear trend is actually kinda neat if you are trying to secretly LARP as Lenin or Mao or someone. The styles of cuts, collars, and pockets that are on some of these items are very practical and old-fashioned.

fuck fashion

>>2882
Clothing that fits well is more important than anything else. You are better off getting stuff from a thrift store and then bringing it to a tailor rather than buying an expensive brand. If you're not fat, most American stores will not have stuff that fits you.
Be somewhat opinionated. Think of the public or historical figures whose clothing you like. Or think of a certain theme or style. Or a color combo. Then try to achieve it.

Reposting an important piece in regard to crap like pic related.
The idea that capitalism in any way expect uniformity is deceitful. You are not rebelling against capitalism by being different, you can't rebel against consumerism by consuming. In fact the idea that if you want to rebel you should not wear a suit and instead you should get some dumb denim vest with a bunch of patches, is one propagated by capitalism in an effort to commodify revolutionary sentiment.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xccCsByav0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2qAy4k8vFI
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rebel_Sell
TL;DR: read The Rebel Sell and remember the Volcom slogan of "Youth against establishment"

>>15762
Otherwise, H&M has rotating discounts and they end up being cheap.

I've also heard people have success with Shein the Chinese clothes brand. I have friends that have nice fits and they say the clothes are really cheap.

>>15758
I don't have a sewing machine either, I hand stitch everything. I don't use sewing patterns either, everything is freehand. Last shirt i made I basically sewed it onto my body, I would attach small bits of fabric together with sewing pins, making sure they contoured by body correctly by using my body as a mannequin. Then I would take the fabric off my body and properly sew then together with a sewing needle and thread. Unless you are really precise, it might achieve proper symmetry by doing shit in this manner, so I personally don’t even try. The only “technique” I really even know how to do is the whip stitch, so for me the barrier to entry was very low. Done this way, sewing becomes an incredibly cheap hobby, requiring only: Fabric, decent scissors, sewing pins, sewing needle, thread and time.

Something like this. Peak aesthetics.

Does anybody know a fashion trend that will work for someone without a car, having to walk everywhere and living in very hot and very humid tropical "paradise"? Currently wearing dark gray athletic shorts, pink tank top. I think this works for me because I have fairly muscular chest, shoulders and neck,at least relative to my general body size, also nice legs compared to a lot of car-human hybrids. My fashion choices are based on wanting to expose my chest hair,my legs and if it would lose or not "style" if I am sweating.

It's literally all brands. Frankly this is why I value all those Chinese making replicas of high fashion clothing. When you're buying legit retail you most probably will gravitate towards the cheapest pieces or the most versatile ones but when they become more affordable you're left with a wider ranger of more interesting clothes.

Take away the brand and all that's left is pure aesthetics.

itt anons talk about fashion without owning a single quality piece of clothing. jfc just buy used pieces off consignment its cheaper than fast fashion brands, introduces you to better fabric, and makes you look like you sort of give a shit about how you look.

Do note that I go to huge thrift stores, browse for hours and might come out with 1 or 2 things, which I might regret buying later.

I hope you people ITT don't fall and pay overprice for this absolute trash "designer" "clothing". Literally just pass by some used clothing stores every once in a while and, for this look, go buy a bucket of paint, fill up a water bottle with it and put it in your ass as you squeeze your glutes. Voilà.

Hope the pound/yen keeps collapsing for summer fashion sale in a few months. Could be some amazing deals.

So far I haven't used one - Ive used a resale shop to buy from tailor toyo and grailed sellers - I'll probably pick the cheapest if I find some good deals. They all seem decent some have worst customer experience than others but I haven't heard of any scams amongst the major consumer exporters.

I'm a girl with a dirty industrial job, and it influences what I wear for practicality. I wear either flexible skinny jeans that brace my knees or baggy cargo pants that I can wear layers under for cold days, usually a comfy zip hoodie over a plain shirt, running shoes or steel toe boots. The only fashion statement I'm making is that I'm not trying to make one.

Id consider modifying and making clothes from scratch if I knew how to sew good and could figure out what aesthetic I want but my tastes are all over the place and my sewing skills are lacking. Really needs it's own topic for the skill part. Related note how do you even put together a look without looking ridiculous if you like so many different things ?

>>1679
Wait. It's more than an aesthetic? News to me.

>>1684
Looking at the history of fashion, especially avant garde designers, really gets me wanting to make my own stuff (for myself, I don't wanna spend hundreds/thousands on the really good shit…). On the same note because I like wacky pieces I also have trouble putting together fits.

Is this thread a joke? Am I being pranked?

File: 1651736301409.png (45.34 KB, 266x201, 1645125450546.png)

Found out many mainstream "high fashion" brands (think Burberry, LV, etc.) send reps to thrift stores to buy and destroy anything there to keep their products out of the hands of poors. They also burn and shred any unsold clothes only to keep their exclusivity instead of marking them down, just like how supermarkets destroy unsold food.

>>1685
I get it. Im not sure id call my tastes wacky but I do like a lot of alternative styles and some things bordering avant garde. Putting it together is one thing but feeling comfortable wearing it when you arent an extrovert ready to deal with the attention it may give you is another.

>>1687
>you can always dress with regular clothes plus one statement piece for more versatility
Sure probably easier to put together that way for some things but others it may clash so depends.

>>1689
>It's not like the thread is very active.
>I'd love to see more posters talk about sewing and tailoring and stuff no matter how basic or if they're just learning.
I suppose. It's just a really broad entailed topic of sewing and dying clothes. I have a sewing machine in my house but am just currently learning hand sewing practicing by sewing shut holes in my pockets and it's difficult to be consistent. Using some sort of measuring guide to help with spacing probably would help though which I dont know if it's a thing. I'm thinking easiest way to customize clothes is splattered bleaching (peroxide can work too) and tye dying. I am looking into natural dyes since normal dye is a petrolium product so it's bad for environment and your health. Problem with natural is not always as vivid and difficult to bind to the fabric. I used to tye dye as a kid and never thought of it since till I recently found some patterns I never knew were possible that is more fitting to my tastes.

>>1690
Where did you hear that? I mean it's believable but it likely is limited to areas close where they are established not in every thrift shop. Inversely, you know those stores that cell defective brand clothes? Like Marshels, Ross…etc. Apparently some fashion companies intentionally make defects to sell at a lower price in those stores to have an alternative means of profit or something while keeping their normal quality clothes same price as before.

>>1645
>>1658
i legit enjoy high fashion (from a distance) but the appropriation of leftist imagery gives me second-hand embarrassment because you can easily get from interviews with all these designers that they literally stand for nothing but aesthetics yet people still think theyre purchasing some sort of "rebel" ideology

>>1694
>'Ambition' is the one word that saves this question from being useless, for we all know that fashion never ever had a political impact. 'Ambition' is cool, because it's what one could aim for, like a good finish in a sport stroke. 'Still' implies that fashion had political ambition in the past: I don't see this at all. Can I remember when 'fashion' ever had a political ambition concerning today's real political issues? From subprimes to the rotten nature of the finance industry? The rise of Islamic fascism? (Certainly our smart guys would avoid that question, because it may damage a big part of their market.) The Chinese invasion of Africa? (Same thing here, who wants to avoid the "it bag" potential in China?) No. I shall stop here. It's a sunny Saturday and I want to enjoy it. Fashion eventually sends signs. Political ambition, it is not.

That's what thinspo normally is. There were whole Tumblr pages dedicated to it run by girls with anorexia and bulemia until they started getting mass banned. Purging is just normal terminology though. There is more subtle things these types say like they have a relationship with Ana. There basically was sometimes an all out war between obese body positive girls and anorexic thinspo girls very hostile to eachother just shit talking eachother. Been a while since I checked in on that though. Also girl in that pic I think is sucking in her stomach some. Her arms and legs aren't entirely so thin enough where id expect her ribcage shows without sucking in her stomach.

Eh it's not necessary these days, those into gorpcore spend all their lives in the city, the ones wearing workwear are white collar workers, techwear peeps hardly ever expose themselves to rain, etc. But here's /fa/'s description for it: "Don't shower for a week, let the hair grow out, get some weather appropriate bottoms and shoes, a nice abstract kind of button-down, and hope you're naturally equipped to pull it off because this isn't something you can try and into. Helps if you're Italian, live in Miami, or rich."

uhh should i hang or fold a zip-up hoodie? its mildly expensive btw so id rather not ruin it

I wish femboys would wear crop-tops and low-rise flared jeans more often. Skirts and thigh socks are played out.

Need your advice: should I return a garment made with nice materials that fits me too short? Its passable if its tucked into my pants and with some outerwear over it…..
