Manga is incomplete, creator is dead, recent shows bombed, no sign of new content coming out any time soon, writing quality went down the drain after super released, ending still hasn’t been written, even the games are losing players and the games don’t even suck… this is fucking brutal man.

I think the OG manga ends in a pretty satisfying way and I consider everything after it to be fanfiction.

>>28511
Everything kind of went down the gutter the moment toriyama introduced the kaioken power up. After that it was just transformation after transformation instead of technique, and grit. At least the transformation spam is shockingly less broken compared to other shonen.

Methinks Dragonball went on for too long
Just like how Naruto started to decline in the Shippuden era.

This is why I say that ten years is enough time for a franchise to be complete.

>>28516
If not for bleach having that massive hiatus, dragon ball would have the objectively lowest number of episodes throughout its entire runtime out of any other shonen.

>manga is incomplete
It was concluded decades ago. In fact, it was supposed to end after Freeza.
>creator is dead
People die. Old people die.
>recent shows bombed
Super was successful. The two latest movies were successful. Daima had its following I guess.
>writing quality
Was never spetacular. Dragon Ball was for gags and fight coreography. The narrative is goofy.

>>28519
DBZ is actually really deep. I think it's my favorite IP in the super hero genre. I didn't really appreciate it until I read the manga. I lost interest in the show with the insane amount of filler.

>>28520
It's not "really deep", it's just not shallow either. It's like any story: it has themes and moral messages and shit. When I criticized the narrative I was mostly talking about the plot which is just ridiculous. The characters are fine and there's enough subtext to keep you engaged.

>>28520
Dragon ball isn’t really a super hero ip. It fits more into an action archetype as most of its characters don’t primarily try on abilities unique to any specific fighter, and constant traininf means that you don’t have characters whose powers are kept arbitrarily static. You are right about the manga.

Moro arc was objectively some of the coolest shit I’ve read in a while.

>>28520
This is why I always tell people to READ THE MANGA!!!

Virtually all anime franchises have better storytelling in the manga format than the television format

And the graphics are better too.

I read Yu Yu Hakusho in Shonen Jump but never watched the anime.
I'm sure the anime wouldn't be as good as the manga anyway.

>>28528
YYH anime is alright. HxH is the one that suffers.

>>28528
No I will disagree on that. The Naruto anime series is substantially better than the manga just off the fact that ninjutsu spamming is *less* common in the anime compared to the manga. Coincidentally, the anime version of dragon ball is a lot less action focused than the manga which gives the show writers time to flesh out characters toriyama doesn’t care about.

>>28536
Ok I will bite.
Naruto and Dragon Ball were good with television adaptation.
And Bleach. And One Piece.

>>28537
Agree with all points except for one piece. I cannot stand how bad the overall pacing of the show is in comparison to the manga. It’s not even that one piece has a lot of filler episodes, it’s the filler scenes in the canon material that I can’t deal with. Thank goodness for the fandom creating one pace to deal with the issue.

>>28543
What's exactly so bad about One Piece?

>>28548
Pacing
Too slow, too many reaction shots, to many flashbacks and unnecessary monologues. Makes scenes take forever

>>28543
True, but it depends on the arc. The pacing started to get really bad from the climax of the Alabasta arc onwards. Skypeia's anime was ruined by the bad pacing. Sometimes they did good, such as in the Water 7 portion of the Ennies Lobby saga. I hear Dressrosa, which already had bad pacing in the manga, got even worse in the anime.

>>28559
Damn.

>>28528
You picked a bad example, the YYH anime looks awesome and has great music.

>>28556
So, just like Naruto Shippuden

>>28575
Oh god, I never finished that show for how awful the pacing in it was compared to dbs and dbz Kai. After reading summaries on the plot, I was even more disappointed by how lazy the writing was getting with the whole Naruto is actually the son of might-as-well-be god himself asura and he gets a massive fucking power up out of the blue despite never training *that* much harder than any other ninja (let’s be real, he barely trains throughout the whole franchise compared to most generic Shinobi). Never liked that show for how much of a cartoonish self contradicting power fantasy it always was. “Hard work and dedication” my ass. Fucker was born privileged and barely worked a day in his life.

>>28597

Naruto was not born privileged. But I kinda agree that his training is overestimated.
What I really hate about Naruto is how they make the main character an absolute goofball.

I ironically like the Infinite Tsukyomi version of Naruto much more.

I also hate the constant flashbacks within flashbacks of the Shippuden arc.
And the fight against Madara was like the Vietnam War. A long meaningless bloodbath.

My brother had to skip episodes and I don't even really know how Naruto amd Sasuke broke free and managed to save the day.

Shippuden's saving grace was that the characters were all good looking and had some cool powers.

Speaking of which, I dont know if you noticed but in Naruto, the villians are sexier than the heroes.

>>28598
Everyone noticed man. They also have better reasons for their actions than naruto

>>28600
Nagato(Pein) is the most justified

His painted toes also are erotic

>>28600
I refer to Shippuden as ShitPuddin

dragon ball has fallen, millions must be sent to the other world

is this the dragon ball thread? daima is pretty good, much better than anything super had to offer. also the best way to even keep up with that bullshit is to simply watch a DB youtuber brief you on the latest tankobons because after goku black i tapped out, man. complete shit. toriyama clearly wasn't giving two single fucks about anything, even GT was better, which is why they totally aped the story structure for daima. it's ironic that he died shortly after ripping off the only piece of DB content that wasn't his.

>>28891
>daima is pretty good
No it wasn’t. King Goma’s goofy design doesnt match with his actual personality and no, toriyama cannot pull an oda stunt where obviously goofily designed characters can be taken entirely seriously because toriyama doesn’t have the writing skills as oda. All the action scenes revolved less around martial prowess and each fighter’s personality and more around the transformation bullshit, ki spamming, and VFX overuse fans of the franchise have been complaining about for decades, plus the show retconned a bunch of shit from super for no reason, and they did basically nothing with the power pole’s reintroduction the moment superman saiyan was used. The worst part isn’t even the bad action, the literal toilet humour present in many episodes, or the fact that the show is so cartoonishly sanitized that it would register for kids, it’s the fact that toriyama did his usual stunt by somehow sidelining all the og side characters to write another Goku-centric power up story involving transformation fan service and absurd power scaling as per usual. Seriously, I cannot recall when I saw tien or yamcha even make a visible appearance throughout the entirety of the show.

>>28892
>King Goma’s goofy design doesnt match with his actual personality and no
it's literally a reimagining of garlic jr lmfao, fake fan

>All the action scenes revolved less around martial prowess

80% of the action scenes are brawling without introducing new forms, literally more than anything super has had in like a decade

>and they did basically nothing with the power pole’s reintroduction

it's literally stated to be a temporary clutch for goku while he gets used to his child body, did you even watch the show. hell, the pole was reintroduced as a stick hanging master roshi's underwear lmfao, it had 0 gravitas around it. where did you even get the idea that it was going to play a major role in the story. do you watch stuff with your eyes? do you not understand subtext

>the literal toilet humour present in many episodes

>cartoonishly sanitized
it's the exact kind of tone DB used to have, do you prefer the sexless sterile autistic goku from DBSuper? Hybis calling vegeta a boob man is more raunchy than anything super has ever had.

>plus the show retconned a bunch of shit from super for no reason

lmfao who the fuck cares, super's introduction of SS god, and an additional upper echelon to the DB pantheon shits the continuity way more and a profoundly essential way. toriyama gave less of a shit with super than with daima. hell i wish daima would have shat on super's continuity even more. just shred it all to pieces because it's total fucking trash.

> it’s the fact that toriyama did his usual stunt by somehow sidelining all the og side characters to write another Goku-centric power up story involving transformation fan service and absurd power scaling as per usual

this has been DBZ for almost half a century. it's such an odd complaint to have. and it has been a lot worse in super. how many ultra instinct forms have we got? like four or five? and goku gets new super powers like casting a giant ghost version of himself for no real reason whenever the plot demands. at least this new transformation reintroduced an old fan favorite form.

>I cannot recall when I saw tien or yamcha even make a visible appearance throughout the entirety of the show.

Why do you want more Tien or Yamcha? Their arcs were finished almost three decades ago. Wait, did you actually like the tournament of power? lmfao unreal.

>>28896
Fuck yeah I want tien and yamcha back. I don’t give a shit about ss4j. I want to see them doing the work again. I don’t care if their arcs are finished, fucking oda knows how to keep characters relevant to major stories and maintain consistent development. I love those guys to bits, I like roshi, I like piccolo, I wish I saw those guys, but none of them appear. Fucking piccolo doesnt so much as make a second appearance until literally the last fight against Goma.

>>28899
Oh and yes, I liked the tournament arc (the manga not the anime) just for this shit right here. Seeing vegeta’s character development actually matter to the plot while driving home a message that wasn’t made clear in the original anime hit hard. I don’t even care that this ends up still functionally the same way the anime does with the whole android 17, Goku, and freiza against jiren thing. I’m just glad to see a major transformation get beat by a villain with sheer willpower only to see trained teamwork win out in a setting where it would matter. This shit is peak

poor yamcha

>>28937
When will 2016 end

>>28937
>>28941
Why do otaku get so mindbroken by the existence of Shinji? Kaworu and Asuka both genuinely loved him, them dying doesn't make him a cuck.

>>28899
because oda isn't making shit up as he goes along, he actually has a huge overarching story more or less establishehd, whereas DB was supposed to end three decades ago. if you're even an oda fan, you should at least recognize what daima is doing, in trying to reconcile scattershot garbage ideas into a coherent universe with an actual arc and sense of direction beyond people wishing to be the strongest in the universe over and over so goku can fight them

>>28972
>huge overarching story
does it really need over 1100 chapters and counting

>>28973
i dunno, i dont read that shit

>>28509
Goku died on Namek.

>>28973
Honestly, yes. One piece is a huge world with a lot of stuff happening that one reasonably couldn’t cover in anything less than a thousand chapters. You know how many fights and major events in the post timeskip have happen offscreen just so that the plot can even advance? And people are still complaining that the series is too long.

>>28918
>character development
>we should learn to team up with space hitler!!
lmao you can't be serious, hell you know which character has a more poignant presence? ribrianne, a literal filler character has more development than anyone on the main cast. what a joke.

>>28992
She literally doesnt develop at all in both the anime and manga what are you smoking? The only idea she has changed are her ideas on what love means and that was in the anime where she had way more screen time than she deserved. Otherwise, she was kept around because her abilities are unique and because she was shockingly stronger than most of the other fighters at the tournament.

>>28993
ribrianne is a good idea for this arc because she's the literal super hero of her own home world, and she ends up eating dirt and accepting her failure which leads to the erasure of her universe, everyone in her home planet was witnessing, she even has to turn around and be like "welp we tried our best but we're all dying anyway". it's like goku contacting everyone to build a spirit bomb and then fucking losing. it's not like it matters because there was 0 expectation of goku's universe not winning and wishing for a return to the status quo, so shit like this has no weight whatsoever with plot that is literal vomit, but there is more pathos there than anyone ever got in ToP.

>>28996 (me)
honestly the best moments in DBZ is when goku eats shit, not when he gets beaten around until the next zenkai boost, but when he fails due to a literal character flaw and has to burden the failure, like when he lets off radditz's tail. it's too bad that toriyama forgot all about writing because he was going senile.

>>28997
I’ll admit, raditz sounded convincing and even I wanted him to live if it meant seeing something with the saiyans go somewhere. At least the idea that saiyans are coming back to relevance with cabba’s introduction hints at an actual overarching plot in the making. I wonder what toyatoro will do with all the world building toriyama left behind. What with the multiple universes, black frieza thing, there being a surviving saiyan race out there, angels having in universe responsibilities past training destroyer gods, etc..

>>28999
I really think they have something cooking with daima with all that shit about supreme kais being from the literal demon realm attending to the god of creation, which contrasts nicely with angels attending to the gods of destruction, subtext being that zeno is not the supreme being, but the supreme being of destruction. it really seems like they want to make El Grande Padre a thing.

>>29000
I’m more interested in seeing what they do with gohan, merus, and the other universes.
