I think the OG manga ends in a pretty satisfying way and I consider everything after it to be fanfiction.

Everything kind of went down the gutter the moment toriyama introduced the kaioken power up. After that it was just transformation after transformation instead of technique, and grit. At least the transformation spam is shockingly less broken compared to other shonen.

Methinks Dragonball went on for too long
Just like how Naruto started to decline in the Shippuden era.

This is why I say that ten years is enough time for a franchise to be complete.

If not for bleach having that massive hiatus, dragon ball would have the objectively lowest number of episodes throughout its entire runtime out of any other shonen.

Super was successful. The two latest movies were successful. Daima had its following I guess.

Was never spetacular. Dragon Ball was for gags and fight coreography. The narrative is goofy.

DBZ is actually really deep. I think it's my favorite IP in the super hero genre. I didn't really appreciate it until I read the manga. I lost interest in the show with the insane amount of filler.

It's not "really deep", it's just not shallow either. It's like any story: it has themes and moral messages and shit. When I criticized the narrative I was mostly talking about the plot which is just ridiculous. The characters are fine and there's enough subtext to keep you engaged.

Dragon ball isn’t really a super hero ip. It fits more into an action archetype as most of its characters don’t primarily try on abilities unique to any specific fighter, and constant traininf means that you don’t have characters whose powers are kept arbitrarily static. You are right about the manga.

Moro arc was objectively some of the coolest shit I’ve read in a while.

Virtually all anime franchises have better storytelling in the manga format than the television format

And the graphics are better too.

I read Yu Yu Hakusho in Shonen Jump but never watched the anime.
I'm sure the anime wouldn't be as good as the manga anyway.

No I will disagree on that. The Naruto anime series is substantially better than the manga just off the fact that ninjutsu spamming is *less* common in the anime compared to the manga. Coincidentally, the anime version of dragon ball is a lot less action focused than the manga which gives the show writers time to flesh out characters toriyama doesn’t care about.

Agree with all points except for one piece. I cannot stand how bad the overall pacing of the show is in comparison to the manga. It’s not even that one piece has a lot of filler episodes, it’s the filler scenes in the canon material that I can’t deal with. Thank goodness for the fandom creating one pace to deal with the issue.
