Is there any good space ship or space battle game? I've been reading SF lately and want to know if there is any game where you control a spaceship or a fleet into battle, or just travel through space.

>>37281
most space games are like flight simulators but worse, you control a single fighter from the perspective of the pilot and it is like ace combat but in space. the most interesting one I have seen from this group is avorion because you can manage entire fleets and it doesn't put so much emphasis on the "space dogfight" nonsense

ftl is nice but you probably already know about it. there is an entire genre of 2d games like starsector or naev that are like a middle point in between the that and the elite-dangerous clones. imo the best one from this group and maybe the only with a good lore is endless sky

Starsector is exactly what you are looking for and the best one that does it.

Not as extensive, but also good.
C# is dogshit tho.

>>37285
Not what OP is asking for, but also good.

Does somebody have the parody story about a starship so big the crew has to build encampments, hunt for food and rest, for the travel from one part to another part of the ship takes weeks?

children of a dead earth

X4 foundations maybe?

>>37287
Did the shiptest like servers get better?

>>37338
Starsector uses Java, do you unironically think C# is dogshit and Java is great?

Noice

No retard, where did I write "Java is great, I fucking love JAVA yes! More JAVA!" I wrote that C# is dogshit, which it is, and that has no further bearing on anything else in that post, moron.
Likewise, at no point did I imply that spacetrader is bad for being written in C#, only that C# is fucking woeful and that is a damper on the project. Neither did I imply a positive relationship between Starsector and Java (which is worse than C#, though Micro$oft sure is trying).

When someone says property a of B is bad, this has no relationship to property c of D, imbecile. Think before posting.

I've been playing Delta V: Rings of Saturn. I highly recommend. It is a very good proletarian game, I'm friendly with the anarchists so far and I go to their base regularly. It doesn't really explain anything to you though and stuff like the 'radar' anomaly idk what that is.

>>37386
and yet, you didn't say "java sucks" when you recommended starsector
you want to disingenuously stablish negative associations, that's why you got angry when he mentioned that java is even worse, because it makes your recommendation look bad and uses your own tactic against you

>>37388
????????
I don't even expect the average poster here to know (or care) what C# or Java are. (You clearly don't, otherwise you would've known that the implementation language matters little to the end user.) To that point: I underlined the initial posters rec was good AND conformed to OPs request.
Get over yourself, not everyone is waging 69th dimensional chess debate wars at all times in every post.

>>37389
so either you are bringing up off-topic nonsense to derail the thread, or you have nothing to add but the debate addict brain still needs to one-up the previous poster. here for example you claim both that c# or java doesn't matter, but at the same time want to bait me to talk about them (by implying I don't know either)

Aurora is pretty fun, it's like Stellaris but not made by Paradox, the graphics are worse…if your computer can't handle Stellaris (like mine) i recommend it.

Haven't played it but I saw a fan of Frontier: Elite 2 recommend Oolite. As far as I can tell it's free and runs on a toaster yet looks pretty in-depth
Recently picked up Elite: Dangerous. I've only played the tutorial and while I don't want to judge a book by its cover it's been meh so far

>>37432
if you want to compare aurora to another autist game,it's more like distant worlds rather than stellaris

Larian studios next vidya is gonna be Space Opera kino

I don't get the appeal of aurora4x. It features the same kind of interstellar empire building as stellaris, but without the streamlined interface and flavor you just feel like a glorified clerk and hr manager rolled into one. Flavor or roleplay are really the lives of most non-action games, which is why interactive fiction is going strong in some spaces to this day, and i don't really know what to do with aurora. The prospect of being this clerk was incentive enough to download the game, not enough to get me through grasping the research, personnel and construction systems though.
