However, the DLC is so fucking brutal man. I’m playing it on the highest difficulty and the average level takes like 45 minutes plus to complete. The reason isn’t even because the game is genuinely hard; the problem exists because of the enemy spam.

Don’t take the DLC the wrong way. The level design is solid, the scenery both communicates a sense of scale and the player’s destination, the normal spawn points are well placed, the new weapons are fun to use, the enemy types are cool, and the difficulty feels appropriate for a DLC in most sections. However, the game is the FPS equivalent to dark souls 2.

Some enemy spawns are completely cheap and are meant to kill the player randomly. The purge levels take ages to complete given the enemy spam and how many waves the player has to fight through. Most fights are multi fights that leave little room for cover. Finally, the set design is discontinuous, which causes the same staggering feeling you’d get when transitioning between levels in dark souls 2. It’s so fucking brutal, dream-like, and long in areas where it shouldn’t be. I’ve had to spend almost an hour shooting from the same dumbass spot or running around for dozens of minutes just to get through some levels. I’m glad the devs learned a lot about level design from the first game, but it’s a shame that they didn’t realize that more enemies != harder and more fun game.

Suprisingly more fun than half life 2 when it’s working.

Boomer shooters (nu-boomer shooters included) are a genre that looks very fun when I watch videos of them, but then immediatelly bore me when actually playing them.

Do you suck at shooters? Do you struggle to aim?

>>38047
No. Also its not like aiming is an importand skill in boomer shooters, thats more of a modern FPS thing. They just kind of have these burst of high energy intense combat that I do enjoy, but most of the game takes place in between, shooting guys in hallways or humping the walls trying to find ammo and health.

Alright

I haven't played the DLC, what's it about? The base game was just so boring. You just run and shoot, there's no gameplay depth. The levels look flat and play flat. It's a step back from many games in the 90s, Doom has more fun levels, enemies and shooting even feels better in that game.

>>38051
It’s the lore accurate conclusion to Caedo’s journey. There isn’t much of a story (as with most FPS games). However, if you like the aesthetics and the gameplay, then it’s a fun pick.

However, do not play the game on any difficulty past medium. The enemy spam of the DLC and the base game is obnoxiously bad.

I reinstalled Boltgun, made it to 4th or 5th level before uninstalling. It got me thinking more about why I dont enjoy these kinds of games, and in addition to what I wrote >>38048, the main issue is that they leave very little space for player imput. Like in RPG games you make decisions, buildcraft, explore, in tactical or strategies you have to figure out the right, well, tactics and strategy, even in other kinds of shooters you at least get some freedom to experiment with weapon loadouts or stealth approach, but in boomer shooters, you just follow a pre-determined line.

There has got to be some boomer shooter/RPG hybrids thought. Do you know of any? Something with quests and exploration would be cool.

I know that one, I little too boomer for me.

I searched around and Hedon is the only other boomershooter/RPG hybrid I found.

>>38177
God I love Civvie

>>38181
Tried Hedon. Did not like Hedon. The controls and the movement kind of feel weird, the weapons dont really have an impact, the artstyle is nice but doesnt really stand out. Now that I think about it, Boltgun might actually be the most fun boomer shooter I ever played.

>>38172
Hedon Bloodrite

>>38193
It's literally Doom movement and the weapons feel powerful, feels like you were barely focused on the game.

>>38196
They think boltgun has good gunplay. They are lost.

>>38183
Yeah he's really good, great channel

>>38181
The MC looks cool, I want more of that muscle mummy.

>>38219
Is there any issue with Bolguns gunplay? Weapons feel nice, sound nice, impactful, chunky audio-visual feedback when hitting the enemy, seems ok.

Guys, do you think Doom Slayer will be a Soul Drinker in 40k? He hates demons but I don't think he will be following orders to kill civillians and shit like that.

Fortune's Run is meant to be like that but I haven't played it. It's an immersive sim boomer shooter, its on my list to play soon. Cruelty Squad is also an immersive sim and is very open in how you want to play it, like it's one of the most open games to play, I think you need to play it if you haven't. Though its not as much of a boomer shooter. The Citadel might also be what you want, it's got a load of weapons and different ways to approach enemies and is like half boomer shooter half tactical shooter. Lots of these games have exploration, thats been in the genre since the 90s and is something Boltgun in particular lacks with its extremely linear maps.
