Why are gamers salesfags these days? Seems like everyone is obsessed with game popularity, like it's the only thing that matters is whether or not other people play the same games you do

The reason is you're letting /v/ and youtube games jounalists form your idea about what gamers are like culturally. Get out of your bubble with some web surfing and visiting fedi and you'll see these attitutude to be quite rare actually.

Unless you're talking gacha games, in which case it's because they're live services and if they go down it'll be hard to read them anymore. Thus profitability == preservation. Only really see this with mihoyo people. Arknights you can just read with https://akgcc.github.io/cc/story.html, I imagine uyghe: Goddess of Victory has something similar.

>these days?
gamers gawking their favorite brands is immemorial. When you're a kid your parents get you a console and a few games so you have to find some way to feel their decision is a good one when you talk to other kids about games. When you're an adult with your own money now you have to justify why the video game you spent nearly $100 on is good and worth playing. Couple that with how modern games are designed to be time sinks that constantly milk you for money with fomo shit and you uyghas doing backflips telling you the time and money they sunk into OW2 or something is worth it.

Now, I'm going to boot up fortnite for the first time in a few years to buy the Miku skin, play for a week, and never touch the game again.

These are just normalfags, normalfags always do that. That said, there's nothing wrong with playing a popular game if it's really that good, it is cool to experience era-defining games like Sonic 3 or Resident Evil 2. Some of these games like Sonic games are truly unique mechanically (okay, there are Freedom Planet and Spark but those are technically clones that came long after the first Sonic game) and some are masterpieces of storytelling (Half-Life, Deus Ex).

>the Miku skin
>Fortnite
Wtf is this game by this point? Fucking Miku is in Fortnite of all characters.

Popularity and media engagement as a metric of goodness

>>39223
fortnite is a platform for advertisements that you can play multiple games in

Same, I need Miku. I think Ill play for like 12 minutes too

Popularity is important. When there are more people, even playing with mud becomes fun.

人气很重要,人多了起来玩泥巴都好玩

I wouldn't play it even if it has Doom Slayer in it. The guns look boring, the fort building looks boring and the graphics look saccharine. And I don't mean "It looks like a kids game so I won't play it." It legit hurts my eyes with just how bright it is, bleh. Heck, Splatoon 3 hurts my eyes less and looks like a fun game. But Fortnite does look much better with raytracing I think.

Also, the character roster looks like a MUGEN character pack, it's so random.

>Doom Slayer
it does,master chief too.

>>39252
>it does
I know. I think it's better to play the actual Doom Eternal. I played the first game and the OG Doom and these were the best hours of my life, it's an unforgettable experience. The kind of experience I get from retro games.

Doesnt matter I need to represent the princess of the world online and smite her enemies

>>39252
And the Cameraman from Skibidi Toilet.

Zero build looks interesting though, and some mechanics like vehicles and destructable walls look hella fun. So I dunno. I guess I'm not as interested in Fortnite mainly because of the building looking like jank and the eye-gouging graphics, and also due to the fact that there are other MMO shooters like Launch Royale. But Zero Build and raytracing eliminate at least two of these problems (I don't have a good PC for raytracing though). And I do wonder how satisfying the guns feel in the game, I don't want to play Overwatch 2 2: Electric Boogaloo.

>Doesnt matter
Bruh, I still have very strict standards, it does matter. I like Project M for God's sake, Sakurai no longer impresses me with Smash Ultimate's roster. I am beyond salvation.

the whole point of fortnite compard to like PUBG is the building mechanic tho, else it's just the same game except graphically and with different vibes

>>39268

Well, I guess the game is just not for me then.

It truely is overstimulating sometimes
