what is ur favorite single player fps franchise!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!
I just started playing the Halo games for the first time and they're my new favorite shooty single player games!!! I was SHOCKED with how much better Halo 2 is compared with the first one, and I was SHOCKED once again with the generational leap on Halo 3. I'm still in the beginning of Halo 3, and I'm excited to see how the next ones stack up. they better not disappoint!!!!!!!!!
>>39494>what is ur favorite single player fps franchise!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!Doom. It's not even a competition.
>>39496The old ones or the new ones? They're both great, but I find the OG ones a bit monotonous, and the new ones have too many distracting collectibles and side proggression things to my OCD ass
>>39494Does FoF against bots count?
>>39503>I find the OG ones a bit monotonousThe OG ones are monotonous? To me that feels the opposite.
>>39507I mean, from what I remember, all you do during the whole games is strafe and shoot. The AI isn't very sophisticated, so most of the challenge is dodging projectiles, and there isn't a lot of strategy to it. But then again, I never finished an OG Doom game because I suck at them, so I wouldn't know.
>>39517>all you do during the whole games is strafe and shoot<all you do in platformers is run and jump<all you do in fighting games is punch and kick<all you do in point-and-click games is point and click<all you do in rhythm games is press buttons to the rhythmGenius.
>I never finished an OG Doom game because I suck at themGit gud. And stop playing on baby difficulty, no wonder you find these games repetitive.
>>39518 lmao i knew you'd hit with that. It may be reductive to say that all FPS games are just strafing and shooting, but if there's one game where this description almost accurately applies it's Doom, wouldn't you agree? I mean, you can't even jump. And I'm not saying this to roast Doom games, I think they're great, but not my cup of tea
>>39519>if there's one game where this description almost accurately applies it's Doom, wouldn't you agree?I think that description fits CoD better. Doom is more like Hotline Miami meets Gunstar Heroes meets… I dunno, Pac-Man or something. Doom Eternal even has that weapon combination mechanic Gunstar Heroes is so renowned for. And the inability to jump is more of an engine limitation if anything.
>>39494I enjoyed Half Life 2 when it came out.
Yes I played all the previous games too. I don't really play single player shooters.
its a mystery to me why F.E.A.R. didn't get the posthumous reputation that something like Half-Life 2 - they came out around the same time - did. Obviously, HL2 is a far more "interesting" game. But in terms of pure gameplay F.E.A.R. is superior, which is especially impressive since it has none of the variety of HL2: most of the levels are in either an office building or warehouse, you fight identical soldiers for the entire game, the plot is a shorthand mashup of pop movie tropes, and the "horror" is completely phoned-in. And yet it still manages to be, in my opinion, just as engaging as the Half-Life games, which have all kinds of gimmicks and diverse situations. HL2 actually drags a bit in the second half (after Nova Prospekt but before the Citadel) whereas I've never been bored replaying F.E.A.R. (except during the aforementioned horror sequences). It's pretty hilarious that they chose to make it impossible to play this game on Steam without also buying the abysmal sequels. I hope I'm not the only one who remembers it, it feels like the only reason people bring it up nowadays is to mention the "groundbreaking AI", which is kind of a gyp since the level design, not the AI, is mostly responsible for how good the tactical scenarios are.
>>45802FEAR is widely regarded as one of the best FPS games of all time, arguably by now it garnered more positive reputation than HL2.
There is none I would like as a franchise, but I really like Far Cry 2. Also have fond memories of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Half Life 2 and Doom 3. Controversially, I find the latter most enjoyable in its series.
>>45804lol no. Hl2 is way more popular than fear
>>45802Im gonna be frank here hl2's gunplay is absolute shite compared to f.e.a.r . Like its shocking to see some people praise the gunplay, when compared to fear its just EH
(damn im up too late. I originally typed in fear 2 instead of fear….)
>>45804>>45808FEAR is more highly regarded but it's not as popular as HL2.
>>39494Half life. Maybe its basic (which it probably is) but i genuinely love it.
>>45815Swat4 multiplayer is kino too, or atleast was.
>>45811oh man i forgot about halo 2. my halo ranking from best to worst is 2, reach, CE, 3, odst
also l4d is so much better than l4d2. i dont know why they gave l4d2 that weird shiny cartoon style, when l4d's graphics already felt so cozy
There isn't really a franchise where I like every game. Quake 1 is my favorite 90's FPS, with HL after it. Then after the 90s I can't even tell, I do like the campaign in TimeSplitters 3, Doom 3 was actually fun to me as well.
The Citadel, I just like the gunplay and atmosphere.
>>45862The first one was really good. I got the sequel, haven't played it yet, but I will probably turn the pressing extra button to reload shit off. I just not into guns like that to enjoy such features.
>>45863The extra buttons to reload is actually great when you get used to it, its not so complicated and it makes the game SO satisfying with some of the weapons like the whalegun. I recommend sticking with it.
>>45866I'll give it a try for a few hours.
Yeah, Bungie's Halos had such good campaigns. All of them. I think Reach and ODST were my favorite.
>>39494Idk never liked single player fps
Far cry 4 maybe
>>45877Go play with your friends then, kid.
>>45879I play Overwatch with my friends but meta characters ruined that game
>>45883i stopped playing after we got spawncamped by a fucking retard who didn't even had to aim with some magic balls was getting pocketed by a Mercy
it's the ecquivalent of getting spawn camped by a phlog pyro with infinite MMPH and a medic with the vaccinator.
except in that case at least you can count with someone eventually getting the duo.
here there was no such thing.
>>45885>>45885>magic ballsKek was that Sigma?
