I think the Kingdom Come: Deliverance of the problem of trying to make an authentic artistic product amid culture war bullshit.
Despite the fact that KC:D is historical fiction and is set in the real, historical medieval kingdom of Bohemia, the first came came under fire for its lack of diversity. What were they thinking, making all the inhabitants of rural villages in medieval Bohemia white?! And coming to the defense of this admittedly ridiculous criticism were a bunch of right-wing and GamerGate types.
Now we have Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and… what's this? There's one (1) Muslim traveler from the Mali Empire in Bohemia? And what's this? You can have a gay romance? Are you trying to tell me there were GAY people in the middle ages? This game isn't BASED anymore!
It really shows how creatives are sandwiched between two tribes of dipshits wanting equally stupid changes so that all media products signal towards their tribe.

Notice that later on for Doom games the plot started to grow, but it never became cumbersome to the point of requiring a fucking lore and episodes which is what you asked for OW.
>>39733When do we insert Stain Yakub in this?
>>39734Fine point but what about the sources?
Is that on the same level of Odin drinking semen?
>>39722Repeat that please?
>>39923Doom had more actual plot than Overwatch from the very first game and DIDN'T advertise itself as any kind of story game with deep characters.
Is the first game worth a play through? I could probably pick it up cheap gmg or something.
>>39927Only if you get it for free. The story sucks, quests are a slog, and the combat is wooden and repetitive. It's a total grind to level your character and the game is unoptimized.
>>39928I feel like you could say the same for every game that comes out nowadays
>>39928Ill just pass on it then, thanks comrade
At this point if you are still humoring anti-woke bullshit you are the enemy. Might as well start Sieg Heiling. I'm serious.
>>39930Anon is being too harsh to it. KCD has a cult following for a reason. True, it is blatantly obvious developers had more ambition than resources, but it is still definitely worth a try. Just tamper your expectations, it isnt a Bethesda-style AAA open world RPG.
>>39585Crossed swords are a metaphor for frotting :)
>>39931Give me one good reason why I should take either side and not laugh at the two tribes of equally stupid idiots.
>>39921nobody tell bro about the tf2 comic
>>40140that was like 10+ years after release tho right
>>40140"Multimedia Universe" shit doesn't count and belongs in the trash.
>>40142>>39921the tf2 comic isnt supposed to make the game ABOUT this all encompassing plot, but is there only for those fans who really enjoy the characters the developers created. the developers, through cosmetics, funny jokes etc created interesting characters that then boosted with the comic. The comic is just (yes it's technically lore but it is absurdly shit) a way to make the players closer to the characters. the problem with overwatch is that it's very forced, you dont "do" any of what the characters claim to do, they are the way they are because the trailers and the media tells you they are that way. when you play TF2 without reading anything without looking at the "meet the.." exists the medic already feels like a psycopath
>>40145This is true. Like I said, all the shorts I've seen about TF2 are basically jokes centering around the theme of this being a "red guys vs blue guys" versus game with no real plot. They completely mesh with the game itself.
All the Overwatch shit I've seen implies this grand plot that has nothing to do with the game itself. In fact, the plot as implied by trailers, shorts and character descriptions directly conflicts with the actual game. The plot implies this kind of X-Men style league of heroes who are in conflict with a bunch of villains who are in some kind of SPECTRE or Hydra-style council of shadows. Not only does the actual game allow for the heroes and villains to be on the same team, often the maps are goofy shit that has nothing to do with this seemingly serious plot, like one of them being in a Blizzard theme park.
>>39940Ok Ill wait for it to be on sale. I don't mind if its not good as long as I didnt pay more than like $30.
>>40153Right now on sale on GOG for 10€, all DLCs included.
>>40164i would really like to buy deliverance but everytime i watch a playthrough i see the combat and think "holy shit this looks loathesome"
>>40165Combat is hit-or-miss. Some people hate it, some love it. I belong to the latter, there is a joy to be found in having clunky difficulty combat system and figuring out ways to break it.
The downside is that game does not have that much in terms of story choices. You always play Henry of Skalitz, you follow linear main quest, side quests are also mostly simple tasks (with handful of more complex ones), map is big but empty. Still has 100 hours of contend though, you will get your moneys worth.
The main draw is mechanical depth and immersion.
Oh and one more thing before you decide to play, the game has save system tied to in-game consumable items. I find that to be bullshit and recommend you download a mod that lets you save normally. It is the most popular one on Nexus.
>>40167Thats one of the better game mechanics, save scumming sucks donkey balls
>>40192Which is why I dont savescum. However, I do like being able to save wherever and whenever, because a.) misclicks happen, and I dont feel like loosing an hour of progress because I accidently attempted to pickpocket a merchant instead of talking to him, and b.) bugs happen. Like once I walked down a steep hill in a forest and the game engine interpreted it as a free-fall and killed me at the bottom. Not to mention, it has that dogshit dialogue system where the game wont actually let you see what exactly will Henry say when picking an option, so I like to save before conversations.
>>40194All of that and I'm an adult with a life and so I might need to walk away from the PC at any moment. Or I might not even have enough time to sit down and play until I get another of those items.
The game shouldn't prevent me from saving over some pretentious design decision.
>>40153I got it+all DLCs for $12 CAD on steam during some sale
>>40205Thankfully it does let you save & quit
Wanted to do a no-death playthrough of Kingdom Come. First I got caught stealing Kunesh's axe, so to do other tasks for father I had to sneak around and constantly run away from guards. Then after he send me back to get him another pitcher of ale, because the one I brought is too warm, the bailiff who sits around the tavern started chasing me after conversation with Bianca and bludgeoned me to death.
>>40224Did the kingdom not come for you in the end?
>>40228Came way too soon. I reinstalled it today. This time I died while attempting to run away from Cumans during tutorial. This game has such a fucking frustrating starting section. It is way too long, way too diffucult and does bad job at tutorialising anything, which even developers seemed to realize considering after the game starts proper you it will tutorialise its mechanics again.
>>40230Wolfenstein is woke and that's based.
Indiana Jones is and always will be kkkolonizer slop that dehumanizes indigenous people and whitewashes grave robbers. Making nazis the villain is just a way to make "archaeology" seem not so racist in comparison.
>>41298>Wolfenstein is woke and that's based. No, you're dumb. Wolfenstein is based precisely because it doesn't include preachy woke propaganda, if it was released in, say, 2012, everyone would've thought it's cool.
>Indiana Jones is and always will be kkkolonizer slopSee? That's why you're dumb. The only reason why Wolfenstein is "woke" is because you haven't found anything "problematic" in it yet.
>>41299The first cutscene is peak fiction, it hits hard.
>>40236The anti-cuman demonization and propaganda in this game is turkophobia, will not buy it
>>39553>Not putting any black characters into the game was a design choice he probably had to explain to his developers in a meetingWhy is that something you would even need to explain when you're making a game set in medieval Bohemia?
KCDI was a small game made by people who enjoy actual history.
KCDII have been compromised by big money and everything that come with it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhIXIsJqFZQ>>41323KCDI had 32 million € in funding
>>41325Probably still small in comparison with the sequel
>>41323>open the channel>soyjacks in thumbnailFuck off with this slop.
>>41326Sequel got around 62€
>>41316Yeah lmao wtf. I'm all for representation but it's like putting white europeans in The Bustling World who's set in Ancient China. Doesn't make sense and not needed.
>>41420If in that game there was a trading caravan with one Roman in it, would anyone be outraged?
>>41421There where roman caravans in this time period? Idk, but in KCD2 the seething about an arab/ottoman caravan merchant is stupid af since it's historically accurate.
>>41422i think they mean in ancient china, and yeah there were Romans (not like a ton but trading and even diplomatic delegations occasionally) and people from asia would make it to ancient europe. There was an event where a buddist monks self-immolated in Roman ruled Alexandria as an expression of faith, people get around.
>>41421I was talking more about KCD1. Anon
>>39553 was implying that the creative lead must be some kind of chud supreme who would have needed to specifically instruct his team to not include any black people in a game set in rural, medieval Bohemia.
Given the setting, I would argue that including black people would be the more conscious decision. Not that such a thing would be impossible, but black people making their way that far into the heart of Europe would have been a rare sight indeed. The way KCD2 handled it was perfect: Musa is basically an explorer.
>>41445I know the character is a tribute to Mansa Musa, but I honestly would have liked it more if the Ibn Battuta inspired explorer/physican/diplomat had been an arab or turkish ottoman envoy with basically the same backstory as Musa has, and then have an african character be an ethiopian pilgrim/knight tied into sedletz monastery and such. I don't think any of the things Musa is are 'forced diversity' on their own and entirely authentic and plausible in the setting, but all being forced into one character is a bit much. I'd prefer more diversity spread out across characters.
