/smt/ general #1 - Schwarzwelt edition
What's hidden at the South Pole is the Schwarzwelt, which is a world comprised of alternate dimensions inhabited my demons. The Schwarzwelt is connected to humanity's abuse of nature. As long as humans harm the environment, the Schwarzwelt can not be removed from reality.
https://smtgen.neocities.org/starter_guideThread question: Do you prefer the DS or 3DS version of Strange Journey? Why?
I'm glad at least one other person from /smtg/ is here. I got to see the beginning and end of /vg/, RIP.
>>41368also on topic for the thread, I actually prefer 3DS because of the QoL additions, but I completely understand why some people hate the 3DS version; Alex is forced into the main story and the art style is worse than the original DS version.
I liked the DS version more, no voice acting improved the game for me.
I remember stumbling onto Aya Nishitani's twitter and hes constantly talking about how he's always resonated with the philosopher Soren Kierkegaard over the more popular Nietzsche or Sartre, it certainly shows in his works
>>41408that's too high brow for me but I remember him talking about how he got in a conversation with a Mexican cab driver, got the idea to make software for astrology and horoscope, which then gave him the idea to make the first DDS book
that's why moon phases are a thing I think
>>41367I've played some Persona 3 Portable last year (some time until after the second block is unlocked). Tartarus felt repetitive and "grindy" (for lack of a better term) after a while, even though the fusing system is intriguing and most fights tactical enough. The main reason i kept playing was social links, but then i looked up romance options and found as fem!protagonist you have no choice but to date through a chain of fuccbois. I don't think i could take any more of this boring-ass high-school setting if i stopped self-inserting, please tell me it gets more interesting later.
>>41415Persona 3 is a slow burn story, but the ending makes the journey worth it imo.
>>41412Sartre didn’t believe in god and wrote about life and philosophy from an atheist point of view and he was also a communist. Kierkegaard was a christian philospher and wrote about god, faith, and the church. he believed faith was personal n emotional, not just something you explain with logic. so, if you have a story or world where god is powerful but not always right and people are meant to think about what god says instead of just obeying that kind of idea could be inspired by Kierkegaard’s way of thinking
Is there ever going to be a Persona 6 or is Atlus just going to make remakes of remakes of remakes forever now?
>>41415You should try p3fes for the ps2 instead. IMHO the psp version ruins the experience by giving you total control of your party members, getting rid of the explorable world and the new social links for femc are borderline fanfic.
And don't listen the risefag
>>41419, p3 has better gameplay than p4 because atlus decided it would be a good idea to:
* Merge all types of melee attacks into a single category, making melee the overall best type of attack against enemies that cannot nullify it or completely useless against those who can.
* Lock you into a single weapon type, so you only get one way of approaching shadows now.
* Give you full party control, destroying any kind of difficulty.
* Allow the multi target attacks to grant you an extra turn as long as you knock at least one enemy down instead of all them.
* Make the dungeons hand crafted instead of procgen, eliminating any sense of exploration without improving the blandness.
* Eliminate fusion spells.
There are other minor things like neutering death, giving chie (best party member) an install kill move as her follow up move, screw up the turn view by only letting you know who is next instead of the full queue and making the analyze useless since it doesn't show up all the details of the enemy.
>>41447I'd wish they remake smt 1 or the persona 2 duology instead of fucking persona 4…
>>41457There's a patch for FES to add parry control too
>>41468There's also an enhancement mod if you emulate
https://gamebanana.com/mods/50322 >>41458I don't think it is necessarily. At least not what I saw from the first game.
>>41458it had Suzuki onboard who is a literal imperialist irl, is it even debatable
>>41476I'm guessing Nemissa since she's on his site and Soul Hackers fits some of his aesthetics
>that's not persona tho-don't care, SMT supremacy also Devil Summoner is canon in Persona
/pg/ refugees? We should have had an off site contingency
>>41501I was literally almost gonna go on reddit before finding this thread
t. /smtg/er
We had a booru but it shat itself some years ago
>>41502Has it been that long? The guy accidentally deleted it, right?
I've been lurking on some discord servers off reddit but I don't get the impression of any significant exodus and the feeling isn't the same. I imagine most of the userbase is just sitting waiting.
>>41503>The guy accidentally deleted it, right?I think he lost interest and let it go on purpose
Is this where /smtg/ and /pg/ merge after breaking up when Arena came out?
>>41509There's an Atlus games general on 8chan.moe's /v/ board, too.
>>41514I'm going to chose to consider this the true continuation of /smtg/
>>41516Unity is required in our hour of need.
>>41491Nemissa is so good, I need to play that again
Is it worth it to get citra or just dust off my n3ds?
>>41518Dust off your 3DS and mod it
https://3ds.hacks.guide/If not that, download Azahar because it's the current version of Citra that's actually being updated, however you'll have to change .3ds to .cci if you're not using .cia files
https://github.com/azahar-emu/azahar/releases/tag/2120.3 >>41521I already have it modded I just havent played it in years.
>>41524They aren't too profitable, sadly
Why are the only actual choices in SMT fascism, libertarianism, and neoliberalism?
>>41543Those are the only things the japanese can conceive of
>>41544Devil Survivor 2 has some sort of supernatural communism if you follow the Latin American guy's path
>>41546Is that one good? I think I downloaded the 3ds versions but I didn't play them.
>>41547It's good but not as good as the first one. If you want Devil Survivor + Neon Genesis Evangelion then it's perfect.
Do the Triangulum arc stuff after you finish the original game because imo it's a better story than the original, but doesn't make sense without seeing the original endings first.
>>41549Sure thing, enjoy comrade
>>41491she's top tier as well, mfs will lead a communist revolution for a goth gf fr
soul hackers has such an incredible vibe, hard to describe exactly but it hits, most cyberpunk stuff feels boomer, locked in the 1980s, but that game felt very fresh, y2k vibes. this music video gives me a similar vibe
>>41555I'm interested in how many are from /smtg/ or /pg/ and how many are coming here for the first time. It's the best /smtg/ has been in years without the eceleb drama.
>>41546That sounds hilarious. I only played DS1 and really liked it.
>>41503>>41508The neocities creator is the guy who lost interest(it was over Soul Hackers 2) and stopped updating the site.
While the booru went down because someone fucked up and everything got lost. Two different instances.
Quite a shame for both, the neocities was a great resource but also had some nice /smtg/ events, like presenting
fan fiction
anons on the gen wrote
/smtg/ and the greater megaten community as a whole apparently had some problem with some schizo who constantly triedfucking shit up and destroy all sorts of fan projects and attacking fanart and scanners and shit, he has a track record throughout the fandom, so my schizoism makes me assume he probably had something do with the death of at least the booru
>>41514>8chanNever going back there
>>41524SMT, maybe not. Though they at least remastered the first three Etrian Odyssey games so who knows
Also kinda fucked that they made Metaphor because they wanted a new, non Megaten, fantasy RPG series when EO was right there
>>41569I only came back to /smtg/ just because of the Raidou remaster news after not being there for months, and then 4chan got shartyraped. So I thankfully avoided any of the dumb shit /smtg/ usually talks about, except for seeing Kaneko's new phone game thing
>>41473Suzuki wears a literal king's outfit as his everyday attire
>>41592been at it for nearly 3 hours; it's some good stuff. Wish more games had stuff like that; just a straight battle mode with no fluff in between>>41592
>>41655Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas
>>41655Kowloon High-School Chronicle
It's somewhere between devil summoner era SMT/oldsona and nusona, while being released before p3. Some pretty weird first-person dungeon crawling with some SRPG aspects to it, lots of mythological themeing, dungeon crawling through ancient ruins under a high school where you also have some life sim and dating sim-esque mechanics with other students. I need to get back to playing it
It's part of some wider series involving high schoolers and mythological stuff, I think the original was an SRPG on the PS1, we only got this one and game on the PSP or VIta I think.
>>41665For Megami Tensei 2 at least
>post-apocalypse >you're a vault dweller in your own vault uniform >leave for a Mad Max wasteland>Even get an iconic computer on your arm though here it's after you lose your armpretty crazy fr fr
I remember there was 8bit Japanese demake of Fallout 3 in Flash done in a more Dragon Quest style, when really it already exists as MT2
>>41655baroque wallpaper I made with the manual
>>41681need a dungeon chill episode on this asap
>>41731nta but I bought that game and haven't played yet, how is it compared to (K)MT 1&2?
>>41747Never played MT 1&2, but TADA's closest dungeon crawling equivalent is probably Strange Journey, since it has traps and the like. It also has a Magnetite-like mechanic, in the form of batteries. You can also opt for traditional negotiation if Bullet Hell isn't your thing.
>>42004That sounds sick, I need to get to it eventually
i hope this thread stays
thanks /smtg/ for letting me know this site exists
>>41458It's probably about as japanese imperialism apologist as the average japanese is, so a little bit
>>42088Me too, kinda wished it lived more.
>>42106This thread was nice, ignore the bickering on /smtg/. 4cucks seethe whenever this site is mentioned so I hope they don't treat as a boogeyman. Don't know if I should continue dumping my autism here or there, it's funny to see some people shit on this place while you're initiating on-topic discussion
And yeah Raidou is apologist, which is better than full blown endorsement at least. It has some rose colored views of the Taisho era as more peaceful and free, but that's a common Japanese viewpoint
>>42110The bitching on 4chan /smtg/ about people coming here at all is hilarious
>>42106but wait how did you find out about this site if 4chan was already down?
Where do I begin if I want to play this? Are any of the 16-bit games decent?
>>42115The 16 bit era games are solid. My personal recs for getting into the franchise are starting with SMT IV for mainline and Persona 3 for the Persona spinoffs. Go anywhere from there.
>>42115Just play SMTIII and see if you like it
>>42115Short answer: Unironically anywhere really. Most games are self contained and do their own thing, besides sequels like IV → IVA or I -> II
Longer one: It's controversial to say, but IV is a good introduction. Just realize that the first dungeon is really fucking long, but that's only the beginning of the game. Some people don't like the Smirk+Press Turn system, but I think getting fucked by it just makes it more rewarding when you do it right.
Nocturne was a lot of people's first foray into mainline back in the day, but it was basically a soft reboot and purposely meant to break a lot of series traditions. IV, for better and for worse, takes a lot from people expect out of a traditional SMT.
If you want more classic dungeon crawling, try Strange Journey. Which version depends on how hard you want it to be.
If you want the SNES experience, the GBA remake of SMT 1 is a good one, just note that the GBA fucks up the music.
Hell try Devil Survivor
I wish 4chan felt as good to post on as leftypol, I still prefer this general to the one on 4chan.
>>421714chan is alright if you stick to the slower places and talk to people who stay on topic. Kind of like with any other site. You're not going to go anywhere on the internet these days without shitposting anymore. This thread is fine, it's just 4chan gets more traffic so if you want to talk to someone you go where the people are. When people were talking about alternate sites to run to several people mentioned fujochan as an option but it's even deader. Despite the fact it stays on topic and has fast loading times like here it always comes down to traffic. I think compared to 8ch if 4chan comes down again I would come here first. And that's not because the Atlus general there was particularly terrible despite getting kind of shitposty towards the end and the regulars leaving us alone for the most part, 8ch as a whole has major problems like blackouts, needing to switch servers all the time, horrible loading times, and a captcha somehow worse than 4ch's. This site has none of that and /pol/ pretty much stays on /pol/. And I know some people say "muh IDs" but frankly I don't think IDs really help contain shitposting all that much. It's trivial to change your IP if you really want to derail a thread.
>>42197I'm 100% in agreement
>>42197I can't handle how much they talk about trans shit in ever thread.
Every general I went on last time I was there they just could not stop bringing it up and derailing the thread
>>42209Memes and humor to them are saying transhumanist and uyghur every third word
>>42206Screaming transhumanist in every thread is the le funny meme even if there is no reason to even say it. I added it to my filter on 4chanx long ago. So when I see a thread with at least half of it hidden I know there is nothing of quality there.
Bought a new 3DS recently after my old one finally shit the bed. Planning on playing devil survivor. When I was in high school I remember emulating the ds version on my phone and having a lot of fun with it but I hated playing on a phone and lost interest when I found out overclocked existed.
>>42206Shit is almost comical with how pervasive it is. Roguelike general? Complaining about trans people. Fighting games? trans people. Gamedev general? Take a guess. I want to believe it's just bots.
>>42219Overclocked is my favorite Megaten game because of the small changes made to the game like the compendium. Enjoy Comrade!
>>42267I love how Pixie became the iconic first demon
>>42171I guess I should post on here more. I get kinda paranoid and don't want them to recognize me as a crossposter, I can't possibly post
>>42018 on there anymore
>>42197100% disagree(didn't finish reading)
>>42287She's one of the first demons you see in SMT 1, and of course she's agreed upon as part of demifiend's "canon" demon party, if not the only accepted demon he "canonically" has.
Before her, Cerberus was almost like a pre-Jack Frost mascot for the series. It was Nakajima's demon, and SMT 1 Hero's dog turns into it.
For me though, Mokoi is the early level demon I think deserves mascot tier appreciation. He's kinda part of Raidou's party in cutscenes and the manga.
>>42294Good golly ms molly those hips would cause a pileup
>>42293>100% disagree(didn't finish reading)Then your hate for the site is too strong. I don't blame you but I've found small communities and made life long friends there that aren't schizos. I don't think that should disappear just because the site is overrun with tourists shitting up the place. It not like 4chan going down will make any difference. The shit posters there are already posting everywhere else.
>>42505I think I still like the in game version more.
>>42418Depends on how much macca you give him
Neutral-Chaos
Dead board
Debisama translation when?
>>43914but we had Soul Hackers 2! Jokes aside I don't think Soul Hackers 2 was that bad.
>>43914Doesn't make money unfortunately
