Why aren't there any Persona clones? It takes fucking years for a new Persona game to come out so there's free money to make one for those who likes these kind of games. Is the social links system patented or something?

Never played persona but according to this guy Digimon Cyber Sleuth is like it.

>Most of them are shit

Ah okay I should've expected it.

Haven't played Pathfinder yet but one of them saying that it's eerily Persona-like got my attention.

i know it'll never happen because it made a trillion dollars anyway but hogwarts legacy as a harry potter-themed persona clone would've went hard

I'd rather play SMT clones.

My pitch for a western persona:

>Male and Female Protagonist Options, it will affect your relationships with other party members (e.g. your best friend will now have a crush on you if you choose to play as female).

>Set in a Boarding School
>Tactical Turn-Based Combat with verticality and destructive environments (think of Silent Storm).
>Plot is basically Code Lyoko… so Code Lyoko.

It takes a long time to write one. Eternights had a lot of Persona inspiration, but it was only about 13 hours long.

OMGGGGG WHY IS THERE NO LIKE UM PERSONA SET IN LIKE UMMMM COLLEGE???????

I always wanted to make a persona-ish game, but I want to fully exploit the very very slight implication or interpretation that the persona 3 protagonist is sociopathic and "fakes" personalities through his personas to build his social links, and I want to be able to truly fuck over your social links for power boosts or whatever, like sort of the inversion, like when you reach a certain stage of the relationship and they trust you or whatever, you can make them sign a deal with them that steals their soul or something, which powers you up. something like that.

>Loop8: Summer of Gods is a role-playing video game developed by Sieg Games and published by Marvelous Entertainment and XSeed Games. It released in June 2023 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
>Loop8 plays as a story-heavy JRPG with turn-based battles. The story is advanced through reading text and selecting response options through a dialogue tree. Multiple paths and endings occur based on said choices. Time management is also an aspect of gameplay - the game plays out on a calendar system, with various actions and choices taking up units of time. Character's moods and reactions vary based on when in the story they are addressed by the player.
>Destructoid favorably compared Loop8 to the Persona series of video games prior to release.
the game is ass though

Persona, and SMT games in general, are like Pokemon. There are plenty of Pokemon clones, no?

>>44115
There aren't many Pokemon clones if at all and SMT games aren't like Pokemon insofar as you aren't encouraged to collect demons or whatever, rather use them as fodder for more powerful demons

And when people say they want a Persona clone, they mean an RPG tacked to a Tokimeki Memorial style dating sim

There's a game called demonschool that does a similar school life/relationship thing to persona but it's a tactics rpg and the sprite aesthetics look closer to p1/p2 than the other games in the series, but according the the devs they never played persona and the similarities are just a coincidence. It's not out yet though (and got delayed because of silksong)

That's basically what its like to be a subject of neoliberal ideology. The ideal entrepreneurial subject is when you have like three part time jobs ("gigs") who instrumentalizes people for their rational self interest

These two I've seen compared to Persona in the past, never played them though, I think Conception has stuff like social links

yeah i want a persona game where the protagonist is like a hellish herbalife distributor, you get it

There was an interesting point in time after Tokimeki Memorial got huge in Japan and every developer wanted to mash random genres with dating sims
The most interesting one to me is Rival Schools. A Capcom fighting game in the Street Fighter universe(Sakura appears in it). We got it in English, but in Japan it came with a second disc where you can make your own character who you can use in the fighting sections, go through a life/dating sim, grow closer to another character and they would fight with you against others.

It's mostly a fighting game bu if you know Japanese maybe that can scratch your Persona itch.

One that IS in English and I have played a bit is Kowloon Highschool Chronicles. Dungeon crawler RPG(with some SRPG esque bits but in first person) with social sim aspects, you're an Indiana Jones(looter btw) type adventurer kid who transfers to Japanese high school with ancient ruins underneath(it's a little bit more light hearted), and the characters you get along with join your party.
If it's a Persona rip off, it's gotta be of the earlier games since it came out before P3, but don't know if can be called that since it was originally published by Atlus in Japan.
It has a really annoying system though, a character says something to you and a wheel shows up with unreadable fonts, and you have to press the right response at the right time and I think it even depends on how hard you press it.

That's funny because this game is also part of series that also started out like that, and released almost around the same time as the first Persona but it was Japan only

I think it's the closest thing to persona, including the mythological motifs

SMT clones, on the other hand, are harder to find
The one that closest fits the description, I think, is the Lost Child, a spin off El Shaddai if anyone else remembers that one. The spin off is a DRPG with recruitable monsters who are weird takes on myth and religion, though not as interesting as ones by Kaneko's. The main character even has a weird GUMP looking device
Strangely enough >>43684 is more right than they know. People call Digimon a Pokemon clone a lot, but a big influence on it was SMT. Kenji Watanabe said so himself in an old interview, probably why Digimon really likes angels. Both sometimes lean towards cyberpunk, and modern Digimon tries to enforce the idea that Digimon are primordial beings. Time Stranger even has its own GUMP looking thing.

I could mention that there are some Pokemon clones, mostly indie, but I know less about them and I've already talked enough.
