Some say that the golden age of gaming was the 80s, 90s or 2000s but I say that the real golden age of gaming was the 2010s during the RPGMaker boom. Sure, it was 2D but it wasn't monetized to fuck with P2W battle pass bullshit or paying $80 (Not counting DLC) for a game you don't even own and can literally be taken from you at any time.

The RPGmaker 'boom' started halfway the aughts, and most games in your pic stem from that time.

Not to be a German Idealist but games have been getting better and better over time (the biggest improvement was in the 90s). The 2010s and 2020s have produced the best games because the technological and social conditions around games allowed the indie scene to really thrive, producing the best games ever made.

Nostalgia is reactionary

They still make those

They are yet to make a single good game. There was never a golden age and it's unlikely to ever happen.

Everyone on this site is autistic, I have fond memories of late 00's/early 10's RPG Maker games too OP

Misao was goofy fun, Mad Father was a bit better
Witch's House was genuinely pretty decent and I think got on steam a few years ago
I never played Ib despite that being considered one of the best RPG Maker horror games

The RPG maker games were horribly adolescent, you can't play them unironically nowadays without wincing a little bit and I say this as someone who loves yume Nikki to bits

Most of the RPGmaker games from the early 2000s to mid 2000s era were complete shit though, people only remember the gems. Ironically enough, I think we get better RPGmaker made games now then we did back then.

It's like people who glorify the Touhou games despite half the catalog not being all that great, especially the piece of shit known as Undefined Fantastic Object.

I would agree, but none of the games shown in pic are good and undertale is a GameMaker program

What isn't this the case for?

Rare, correct opinion. A ray of hope. Thank you.

OP wasn't talking about early 00's RPG Maker games though

the rpg maker boom was certainly really important for gaming in general considering how it let people develop games without learning shit like modeling, but saying it was the best is kinda crazy considering indie games today are getting better and better (while AAA slop gets sloppier and sloppier)

>indie games today are getting better and better
at pumping out bland trend chasing games like their AAA counterparts we're supposed to pretend they're still an alternative from nowadays

So sorry to inform you but Slaverian trucker 1.0 release is just around the corner and mr. SawyerK has already started developing a kind of sequel, Apocalypter

The videogame industry was a mistake.
