Watching a playthrough of MGS Delta reminded me what a poor writer Hideo Kojima is.
>uhm acktually he wasn‘t involved in making the gaym
It‘s a remake that kept the same story.
Kojima‘s shortcomings as a story writer are that he uses way too much exposition. Scene after scene of giving explicit and longwinded speeches about what is happening in the world. It’s laborious to pay attention to everything and you forget the shit anyways. Which leads me to the next problem.
His endless world building. He keeps introducing new layers, groups, conflicts and conspiracies that simply overwhelm the audience. More world building is only desired if it‘s actually interesting but Kojima seems to simply assume that it makes his stories more intriguing when in actuality he is just confusing his audience and makes them frustrated if they even cared to pay attention.
Another problem is that he adds plot twist after plot twist after plot twist, seemingly for the same reason that he believes it makes his stories more intriguing. In retrospect it‘s funny how unphased every plot twist has left me. There was no built up to make me invested in whatever has been overturned.
>Oh, the shaggy dogs weren‘t actually double spies but tripple spies for the cyber homolords? Damn.. anyways
It‘s odd to me he has gotten so successful. Don‘t get me wrong I actually like the MGS series, but it‘s selling points for me have been Kojima‘s creativity and the gameplay being somewhat unique. It has character. But the writing is awful.
