These are 2 very different things and SHf is neither.
Combat isn't nearly dark souls level hard, but I do agree there's too many enemies at certain parts.
Very important note before any of you start NG+:
DO NOT USE THE PILLS. USING PILLS EVEN JUST ONCE IN AN NG+ LOCKS YOU OUT OF ALL NEW ENDINGS.
I only found this out the hard way, don't repeat my mistake.
I'm playing it rn. Im a pretty big SH fan and I think its a genuinely close contender for one of the series best entries. The combat doesn't resemble souls like games in really any capacity, if anything the combat is like Ocarina of Time or something. All the scares have felt very earned by the game and didn't come off as forced or overdone and it genuinely had me jump and yell FUCK more than a handful of times.
The only real complaint that I have is that I wish there were more enemy types. There's like 5 basic enemy types each with an otherworld counterpart, not counting bosses. I feel like I'm the older games there was a lot of variety with enemies so you couldn't always know what you were going to have next and this game doesn't really have that.
I still think the game is worth checking out if youre a j-horror/silent hill fan. There have definitely been far worse entries in this series and this isnt one of them.
