>It's fantasy
>Except it's also sci-fi
>Except its also superhero shit
>Except there's also modern military guns
>And also there's MMO mounts for some reason
Could they have just picked a theme and stuck with it? This feels like if you asked an AI to make a popular AAA video game concept with no further instructions.
i picked three from there
I am so sick of extraction shooters, and the negative influence they've had on dungeon crawlers.
well it's basically a fusion of every hero shooter,it has mounts like paladin,it's sci fi like overwatch, superheros like marvel rivals, and the only twist is that you have to beat the ennemy team after you finish pushing the cart/payload
Except for the MMO mounts you just described Arknights, Star Wars, some episodes of Star Trek, and I assume Dune even though I have only seen clips of Dune.
>it has to fit into one single genre
why
What even is this game? Is it a BR, extraction shooter, just a regular hero shooter? They made it the final trailer for TGA and it's coming out this month but the trailer doesn't convey what exactly what type of game it is. The aesthetic being an nonuniform mishmash of other genres doesn't help.
>>45379ok but hear me out
a GTA extraction shooter
>>45385>same shit but the map is a bajillion times largerTodd wtf are you doing here
>>45379I still haven't played one of these
>>45382>ArknightsGacha.
>Star WarsIt's science fiction with a subtle undertone of fantasy.
>Star TrekStar Trek is just science fiction.
>DuneDune is just science fiction, with an even more subtle undercurrent of the fantastical.
>>45379Dungeon crawlers are busted, old man.
>>45400…we go in, and go in, and go in, and lose the vaccine!
>>45391>gachaStill a pretty good example of tacticool sci-fantasy with charcters specialized at specific tasks while aura farming–which is the essence of superhero stuff imo.
Reccomend it even though it's got pacing issues first few chapters.
>Star Trek is just science fiction.Depends what planet they go to in a given episode, especially in the OG series.
>a subtle undertone/undercurrent of fantasy. It's still there though, but I get you mean how it's blended.
>>45393Ultima Underworld-
>sips jolt colaAyyup, that was good game.
>>45402>Still a pretty goodNo gacha is good.
>Depends what planet they go to in a given episodeThe only "fantasy" Star Trek entertained was the possible existence of psychic powers, which people thought was legitimate back when it was made.
>It's still there though, but I get you mean how it's blended.People call Jedi "space wizards," but they're not casting fireball or whatever. The Force is basically magic, but it's a very subtle form of magic compared to how magic is portrayed in fantasy.
In Dune, the only thing that is potentially mystical is prescience, which Frank Herbert never really gives any kind of "scientific" explanation for. I would agree that the other powers are kind of fantastical, but Herbert at least tries to give them some kind of at least materialist explanation and tries to make it explicit that they're not magic.
>>45383I just watched someone play this game. They got mounted on horse while equipping some kind of AK. It was the stupidest thing I've ever seen.
>>45383>>45679Most media is basically one type of genre or another. Most forms of "genre blending" subordinates all the other genres they might be blending in to one central genre. One example might be Star Wars, where elements of things like fantasy and westerns are blended in, but they are subordinated to the central sci-fi theme. Star Wars is a sci-fi media franchise with influences from other genres. Contrarywise, Warcraft is a media series which has some sci-fi influences in it, but these influences are very much subordinated to the fantasy theme.
With Highguard, there is no central genre. Sci-fi, fantasy, superheroes and the modern military shooter exist equally and in stark contrast to each other, so it feels like a weird thematic Frankenstein with parts stitched together haphazardly in a way that doesn't blend.
So the incredibly dumb absurdity that is AK-47 cavalry.
>>It's fantasy

Isn't that over half of JRPG's?
ELEX but even more ass
>>45364>This feels like if you asked an AI to make a popular AAA video game concept with no further instructions.I honestly would not be surprised if that's exactly what happened.
>>45689Once again, these games that blend genres usually have a central main genre that all the other influences from other genres are subordinated to. As an example, Final Fantasy games are clearly fantasy above all else, and themes from other genres that they might be mixing in are subordinated and made to conform the the overarching fantasy genre.
>>45364What is up with that haircut?
I played like 4 matches before I got sick of it. The aesthetic and characters are bland as fuck and the game has forced upscaling that looks like blurry shit. The game feels like 3-4 different game modes mashed into one that doesn't work at all. You have to reinforce walls at the start of the round but walls are so easy to destroy it barely matters. You have to collect resources and you can tell the game was probably going to be a moba because you're riding around large empty space perfectly divided into 3 lanes you'd expect mooks to be walking in a line through. TTK is short and respawns are long so it's not uncommon for one time to wipe the other during the reverse CTF phase of the game and be able to plant it by the time they're back. Baffling this made it past playtesting.
>>45727>forced upscaling that looks like blurry shitthat's the new standard for the new "generation" of games,it's all DLSS and AI upscaling to make the game able to run even with the worst optimized textures in existence
so if you don't have 8GB VRAM ? enjoy putting it in potato mode
I'm glad I'm not the one who bought monster hunter wilds in our steam family holy shit
