I work at a shitty grocery store in an even shittier area. People come in who are completely illiterate and need to be walked through each step of paying. Basically everyone uses foodstamp payment and we get robbed every single day whether it's the carts and baskets getting carried off or someone running out the front with food.

Is it anti-Marxist to prevent shoplifting? Should I just ignore people blatantly stealing when I am working the self checkout machines?

If you see someone stealing something that makes life slightly less shit, no you didn't.
If the bossman gets mad at you for that, they're just looking for excuses to fire ya so you'll be more desprate and would've found something else or made shit up.

I stock shelves at Walmart. I always joke with people that if they want to shoplift they should carry whatever they want to steal over to the frozen section where there aren't any cameras.

You shouldnt usually for your own safety. Many homeless people have nothing to lose so they stab you for less than stopping them from shoplifting. Then if all the lumpen know you wont stop them from shoplifting it could encourage them to shoplift even more during the hours you work and situation can get out of control. Its not an easy yes or no question.

It's not your problem. Do be careful to not lose your job though. There's also a chance that the branch becomes too unprofitable and ends up closing, and that means you lose your job, so if someone is constantly stealing expensive shit all year it might be in your best interests to intervene. Otherwise fuck them boojs
