>>6532As of now over 200 people have been confirmed dead, and likely the number will jump pretty high since the place was packed with like 1000 people. The party was attended by pretty high profile families in both the government and private sector.
The most noteworthy victims are:
-Rubby Perez, a famous and beloved singer, who was performing
-Octavio Dotel, former baseball player
-The son of our public works minister and his wife, who was a member of the Grullon family, who own the biggest private banking conglomerate in the country
-Governor Nelsy Cruz, sister of former MLB player Nelson Cruz
People who attended previously have said that the roof was clearly not well maintained and have reported that sometimes they saw tiles falling from it. Also the place had suffereda fire a few years back that might have also contributed to the collapse of the roof. The whole thing has again sparked a debate about enforcing building codes and performing inspections on existing structures.
Everybody is dogpiling on the owner of the place for failing to properly maintain the building(although he also has some people defending him for some reason) and have launched a lawsuit against him.
IMO he will pay some sort of compensation to the families of the victims, but doubt that anything meaningful will happen, maybe a law or two and a few months or years of revisions and then everything will be the same as before.
