Good morning leftypol,
I see many knowledgeable comrades here (both pro and anti Stalin). I have always been intrigued by the trials of the Stalin era, so I will be making threads about them. Not all at once, of course, I do not want to flood the board. They will also not be in chronological order. I start wih the Rudolf Slansky trial, as it is perhaps the one I hear the least about.

The main accusations were high treason, Titoism and Zionism. They were all found guilty. Critics call the trials antisemitic.
Please enlighten me on every aspect possible: the accusations, the trial and the supposed ‘antisemitism’.

I thank you all for your contribution.

>ZIonism
As if Stalin didn't support Israel to uphold democratic centralism lmao

How could stalin be antisemitic since he created israel?
Checkmate hamas trotskyists

no one gives a fuck about slansky huh?

Seems like the stalichuds are not battling the allegations

Gabagool

Uhhh kino quote?

>When cross-examining the accused, he would frequently interrupt them, make intolerant remarks, and compare them to insects and the worst human waste. At Slánský's trial, he said in his final speech "I demand the death sentence for all accused. Let justice smash like an iron fist, without the slightest pity. Let it be the fire that shall burn out this nest of enemies."

>The main accusations were high treason, Titoism and Zionism.
>Titoism and Zionism
meaning: support for the official policies not only of the Party, but also of the Czechoslovak state (pre-1948, of course)

>antisemitism

There is literally 0 evidence for an antisemitic motivation of the trial, except for the usual zionist squawking (NOOOO!!! THEY WERE ALL JEWS!!! LITERALLY HITLER, POGROMS, COSSACKS BLACK HUNDREDS!!1)

I agree, your ordinary people could have interpreted the trial and the accusation in an antisemitic way, but it definitely wasn't start of state-sponsored antisemitism or something.

Except for that, Artur London, one of the defendants, later claimed in his memoirs, that interrogator major Smola supposedly yelled at him, that Hitler should have finished the job.

But that's it. That's all the evidence we have.

Another defendant, Andre Simone, said this in his testimony before the court
>I am of Jewish origin. In which countries is anti-Semitism rampant? In the United States and Great Britain. I have joined forces with the intelligence services of these countries. Which countries are promoting racism? The United States and Great Britain. I have joined forces with the intelligence services of these countries. In which country is there a law against racism and anti-Semitism? In the USSR. I have joined forces with the anti-Semites, American, British and French intelligence against the Soviet Union.

That doesn't sound like "all jews are zionist-imperialist agents", right?

>>2498317
more like none of you knows anything about him, lol

In soviet russia the SKY is red

SlanSKY? Dead.
TrotSKY? Dead.

Power struggle between him and Gotwald most likely tbh

My apologies since I was banned for 3 days for making a stupid joke with a joke flag and joke name and some anal mod took it seriously.

Read this attached pdf. Control+F for Slansky if you don't want to read it all and just want to focus on Slansky.

The tl;dr is that Slansky was deliberately smeared as a Western defector by the CIA, who planted fake evidence against him and used fake sources to testify against him in order to convince the USSR to kill him. Stalin himself was hesitant over condemning Slansky and thought something seemed suspicious about how it all played out, but in the end the CIA won and Slansky was killed.

This book was a great hit here in Czechia back in the 1990s

But there is more to it

The secret operations against Slánský, codenamed "The Great Crossing Sweeper" (Velký metař, in 1949 Slánský promised to sweep out every enemies of the socialization, hence the name) were not carried out by the CIA, but by a Czechoslovak emigré group called OKAPI organized under the CIC.

You see, after 1948 many Czechoslovak emigrés tried to organize their own intelligence service under the wings of western intelligence services. And it wasn't just Americans. The french SDECE organized a lot of them and MI6 even created so called Czechoslovak Intelligence Office (CIO). And Slovak fascist emigration is a chapter for itself, they started even before 1948.

The most important activity of these groups was sending so-called "agents-walkers" (agenti-chodci) to Czechoslovakia. "Walkers" because they walked across the border smuggling weapons, disinformation leaflets, money etc. Sometimes they helped people to leave Czechoslovakia (not just some randos but "important" people)

The whole operation was organized by František Moravec, who was also behind the assassination of Heydrich in 1942.

Colonel František Ostrý, aka Frank D. Kent, a member of the OKAPI group, said this about the operation against Slánský
<The intention of the operation was to get Slánský out, but any other outcome, especially his downfall, was welcome. Since Slánský was the "Great Sweeper" in the truest sense of the word and the Communist Party lost its main fighter. Slánský's personal false ID card for crossing East Germany is still in the archives of Stalin or the Politburo.
(From interview published in the "Prague Cold War" magazine https://www.praguecoldwar.cz/kent.htm )

Czechs have always fascinated me

One thing which I find perplexing is why would he confess?

>>2503135
When you're tortured eventually you'll break the only question is how long it will take. If you're really lucky the interrogator will get impatient and have you shot but most people won't hold out long enough for that. Slansky held out for a while but he broke.

It is still odd to me that so many nations and countries rely upon torture despite its proven ineffectiveness. Even modern day America with shit like waterboarding. You'll be confessing that your entire family are terrorists if you've been waterboarded for long enough. Crazy shit that should have died centuries ago but somehow people still do it today.

tbh, I don't even know if the letter was mentioned at all during the trial

Btw

Unlike the Moscow Trials, the Slánský trial is very well documented. Not only we have like the 500 pages transcript, we also have audio and video recordings.

Unfortunately, all this is in the Czech language. In English there is only transcript of the radio broadcast available https://redstarpublishers.org/slanskytrial.pdf

The transcript in Czech
https://archive.org/details/proces_se_slanskym
Audio and video recordings
https://www.nacr.cz/en/for-public/research-room/digital-research-room-archival-records-on-line/political-trials/slansky

The recordings were long lost and they were found only in 2018 in some abandoned factory.

"I demand the death sentence for all accused. Let justice smash like an iron fist, without the slightest pity. Let it be the fire that shall burn out this nest of enemies."

some anon asked here what do Czech MLs think about the Slánský trial but for some reason deleted his post.

My answer: There are very few actual MLs in Czechia. There is no ongoing discussion about Slánský and probably never was. The CZ translation of the Splinter Factor book was published by a communist publisher, so I guess the majority of them would say it was a CIA provocation. But there is no original research on their part. (The only thing I was able to find was a book by major Košťál, one of the interrogators, where he denies that Slánský and co. were tortured)

>>2507677
i did not delete it, mods did. I don't know what was wrong with the post, for them to delete it.

>>2507681
Must have hada itchy mouse finger and slipped

>There are very few actual MLs in Czechia
shame
this country used to produce great furniture and cool weapons

>It is still odd to me that so many nations and countries rely upon torture despite its proven ineffectiveness.
It's all because of the accursed word, profit, profit, profit.
When you reward people for number of criminals they catch, then some will definitely use methods to turn innocents into criminals.
If you reward people for low number of crimes, then some will hide the criminals.
If you reward soldiers for number of enemies they kill, then they will kill civilians and call civilians enemies.

Profit is the root of all evil.
