But look, I’ve tried organizing myself and one lesson I derived from it is that there’s sadly a lot of people who love the idea of “critique” but get mum when it comes to actual work. They’ll confuse long paragraphs and radical phrases as “work” when it’s far from it. And at times, they’ll sadly use things like “collective leadership” to excuse a lack of accountability or action on their own part.
I’m not trying to sanctify Mamdani, rather I dislike this idea of mistaking critique, so long as you attach a vague call to “organize” afterwards, as action. It feels a lot like a guy who couldn’t make it as a director and so became some film critic. Yknow say what you will of Neil Breen, but the guy still makes movies.
I can respect the fact Mamdani is taking his lumps, is what I’m saying. He’s getting out there and running, and he’s got cunts like Laura Loomer sneering that he’s a dirty brown man who eats food with his hands. It’s active participation in struggle that matters, getting battle scars I guess you could say. While I’ll see some radicals out there protesting, and god bless them I’ll try to protest with them, we need to exist as more than just occasional protesters. Something needs to be built.
Do any of these critiques include a constructive alternative? Do they have a candidate that they think is better? Do they have something concrete, happening right now, that you should be working towards and that any affinity for Zohran undermines? Or are they just saying “organize!” And fucking off?
