Liberals are losing hard, and they're either jumping ship or becoming more right wing. So naturally, the aesthetics of the winning faction are going to be used by the losers in an attempt to gain some of that popularity.

Added to that in the time period I moved away from this board and started to move towards actual groups which ended up being very funny in retrospect because the /leftypol/ board genuinely did make a huge impact on Internet leftism but due to the purity culture of many socialist spaces it's basically an open secret that is very rarely acknowledged until one gets in private one on one conversations with people who can be very trusted.
Anyways, back to my point the part that made me realize that a lot of us operate on a lot of the same thought patterns with different political ideologies painted over them is the subject of guns. While I'm not anti-gun it was when I made friends with people in Portland that made me realize that left-wing gun culture is basically the same militia LARP that right-wing idiots do but with a red and/or black and/or trans flags thrown over them. Again, I'm not anti gun but having an AR-15 is not going to make you and your friends be able to overthrow the US Government despite not doing jack shit to actually get the masses on board/doing things that actively alienate them such as purity testing because you're over compensating for the time you were a CHUD.
Anyways while I noticed this I still held out hope for my dumb ass "friends" until I began to notice that a lot of people began to split for purity reasons and didn't really do much for community building. Added to that being that a lot of American leftists are white and upper middle class a lot of them basically adopted promote books that are basically IRL scizo-posts like Desert and Settlers because instead of reflecting and realizing that maybe they're the problem, they decided to just go with the most fringe theories possible in order to explain why 2020 didn't create a revolution.
A lot of this is another example of the same kind of thinking from a right-wing phase slipping in the back door, especially in the case of a lot of leftists who promote landback (note that's not everyone who does there's a reason I mentioned Settlers in particular) because a lot of them think that native people had an Indigenous utopia that didn't really exist and it pisses off their racist uncle who wants to send Mexicans and other people back.
Even when it comes to purity culture itself a lot of it is the Protestant/Puritan mindset of American culture just with a left-wing coat of paint.
Obviously, this doesn't apply to everyone and leftism is philosophically different but you're also still a product of your environment and you're never gonna be free of it even if you think you are. If you want to see if I'm correct just talk to the people in the leftist communities around you and they'll have a similar story once you dig deep enough. Even people who never had a dumb ass conservative phase are influenced by those who did but do the same thing with a left-wing coat of paint just due to being in overlapping spaces/coming out of the same culture.
Anyways, I'm gonna either gonna get out of this country or jump in a river like Osamu Dazai.

Especially in the case of the Internet it is fueling the increasing isolation of the average person and thus if you can get people to focus on their immediate community around them then you're much more likely to succeed/give people hope that your ideas work. So much of misery is from being addicted/overstimulated from Internet that it is important give people a practical alternative/have people be actually connected to the community around them.
