I think the two key differences between the Vietnam War and the Iraq War is that with Vietnam there was a draft so the average person was forced to pay attention, and back then the media was actually interested in covering war and anti-war demonstrations.

People just don't think their individual actions matter in the broader scheme of things. The average American is very demoralized.
