I feel like the legendary bunker man is severely under represented in leftypol. I'm pretty sure there was must be a few Hoxhaists here. While I do not know much about Comrade Enver, the little I have read of him is very interesting. For example, his criticism of China and eclecticisms like blending religion and communism (islamic communism e.g).

First time I heard about Hoxha I thought he was kinda crazy but a lot of his actions made sense when you learn the context. Albania was a little piece of land that was endlessly colonized or vassalized by some great power like the Roman empire to Ottoman Empire, Italy, etc. He contributed to securing Albania's independence in WW2 and during the break with Tito. After the Sino-Soviet split, he sided with China up until late Mao and apparently Albania played a big role in China's entrance into the United Nations. By the end he felt betrayed by everyone with China's market liberalization and the rise of Gorbachev. All he wanted ultimately was to make sure no foreign army ever set foot on Albania again. Looking at NATO in Yugoslavia, I'd say he was pretty correct about preparing for outside hostility.
