The revised bill reportedly specifies that executions would be carried out by shooting, the electric chair, hanging or lethal injection, by a prison officer whose identity would remain secret. It would also grant military courts authority to impose the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners from the occupied West Bank regardless of the prosecution’s position, while removing the requirement for unanimous verdicts and abolishing the rule that all judges must hold the rank of lieutenant colonel or above.

KP Sharma Oli Defies Critics, Tightens Grip on Nepal Communist Party with Third Term Victory
Oli’s decisive victory at this week’s party convention signals that despite the public backlash following the September 8-9 demonstrations that toppled his government and dissolved parliament, Oli retains overwhelming support within party ranks. Of the 2,227 delegates who voted, he got 1,663 votes – nearly 75% – while his challenger, Ishwar Pokharel, managed only 564 votes. Oli’s dominance within the CPN-UML stretches back nearly a decade. He first claimed the chairmanship in 2015 by defeating Madhav Kumar Nepal and then secured a second term in 2021 against Bhim Rawal. Both rivals have since defected to join a competing communist faction led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Polish Constitutional Tribunal violated European law, rules EU court
In its ruling today, the CJEU also found that the TK itself is not a court under the meaning of EU law, given that it contains judges unlawfully appointed under the former Law and Justice (PiS) government. The EU court’s judgement was condemned by a former PiS prime minister, who called it a “usurpation” of power by the CJEU aimed at “depriving Poland of its sovereignty”.

Opposition to labor reform in Portugal continues after general strike
Opposition to the revisions has also united Portugal’s main trade union organizations: both the progressive CGTP and the conservative General Union of Workers (UGT) converged on the topic. “Even the center-right sections of the UGT voted in favor of the strike,” Macedo explains, adding that both confederations have pledged to continue mobilizing. However, the UGT was recently reported meeting with government officials, aiming for a “positive restart towards an agreement.”

Protesters burned tires and a faux wooden coffin bearing the word “Agriculture.” Their fire unleashed a black cloud that swirled with white tear gas. Communist Party of Venezuela condemns imperialist offensive and defends national sovereignty
The recent statements by US President Donald Trump fully confirm the warnings made by the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV): Washington’s aggression against Venezuela and the Caribbean is not a response to a supposed fight against drug trafficking or the defense of democracy, but rather part of an imperialist offensive of recolonization aimed at appropriating our nation’s natural resources, territories, and strategic assets. The order for a “total and complete blockade” of illegally sanctioned oil tankers constitutes an open and flagrant violation of international law, deliberately aggravates the already deep political, economic, and social crisis suffered by the Venezuelan people, and reaffirms the criminal nature of unilateral coercive measures, which have played a leading role in the deterioration of the living conditions of working people. At the same time, these external aggressions have been used by Nicolás Maduro’s ruling elite as an excuse to impose anti-worker and anti-popular policies, placing the burden of the crisis on the majority.

Chile: How the Reformist Left Helped the Far Right Win the Presidency
On Sunday, Chile elected a far-right president. José Antonio Kast, an admirer of the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, faced off in the run-off election against Communist Party member Jeannette Jara, clinching 58 percent of the vote. This election represents a major political defeat for the reformist left government of Gabriel Boric, which caused deep demoralization among its own social base for its conciliatory approach to the Right and failure to deliver on key policies. Unsurprisingly, capitalists and major employers immediately welcomed the election outcome, expressing their support for the president-elect and voicing their willingness to work with the new administration. Kast’s victory comes in a context marked by the rise of the Far Right worldwide. Indeed, he has cited Italy’s far-right prime minister Giorgia Meloni as his political role model and aligns himself with ultra-reactionary governments in Latin America, like those of Javier Milei of Argentina and Daniel Noboa of Ecuador. All of these leaders are following in the footsteps of Donald Trump, who has intensified his offensive against Latin America. Recently, the U.S. president has stepped up attacks on Venezuela, which he is threatening with a ground invasion, reviving the old Monroe Doctrine that considers the continent to be Washington’s backyard.
