As a latino the more I live the more I come to the same realization. I've said it before but one of the two great weaknesses of trad Marxism is its hope in an abstract global working class solidarity. You can't even get white and blue collar workers in the US itself; so the idea that a tech worker in the US will ever feel brotherhood with a janitor from india, who came from a distinctly different part of the world system and belong to a different set of traditions and rituals, is patently absurd. Although to be fair to the Marxists if you live in the Fordist/assembly age they were indeed somewhat justified in thinking that, but it simply is not true today

I hate this mentality, The 3rd world proletariat is not gonna be liberated by themselves, we need everyone to pitch in.

Wonder what the stats are on internationalism and class consciousness in the US. For any given issue on the table within these two perspectives you've got maybe 40% of the population. I suspect the trouble isn't so much that for any given issue that you've got 40% of the population in support but that there's no cohesive body to represent these people, let alone consolidate and advance these views. (Would be interested to hear the internationalist class conscious position on trade since it's such a major issue, I've got an idea but far from certain its right.)

People use the term "western leftist" to just refer to anyone who isn't bending over backwards for "socialist" countries but its a much more appropriate use to refer to people who's entire understanding of politics is who is anti-USA (good) and who isn't (bad), like man i think the Iranian communist groups who have been fundamentally anti-shah and ALSO anti-mullah know a lot more about the khameinei government than you (based in America/Europe).
