Palestine Action hunger strikes come to an end as Elbit systems denied contract
The move was a central demand of hunger strikers Heba Muraisi, Kamran Ahmed, Lewie Chiaramello, Teuta Hoxha, Jon Cink, Qesser Zuhrah and Amu Gib, who began re-feeding in line with medical guidance on Wednesday evening. It came as Elbit lost out on a £2 billion contract that would have seen the company train up to 60,000 British troops each year over a decade. Elbit has secured more than 10 public contracts since 2012, but campaigners said the latest decision marked a significant shift.

Rightward shift rips apart the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance
In Brandenburg, Crumbach declared that the party, for which he served in government for a year, is no longer fit for anything, not even for the opposition. He described it as a “troublemaker” that no longer wants to shape society. Wagenknecht countered with accusations of “betrayal” and “electoral fraud.” BSW state chairwoman Friederike Benda accused the renegade MPs of having “abused their roles in the BSW for months in order to blackmail the party” and said that Crumbach lacks the courage to “fight for a real political project.”

Syrian swimmer among activists cleared by Greek court of aiding migrant rescues
The court ruled that volunteers with Emergency Response Centre International, a Greek-nonprofit, not guilty on charges of facilitating illegal entry and forming a criminal organization. The prosecutor had already urged acquittal, saying the charges lacked evidence and noting that one of the defendants routinely alerted port authorities to approaching boats. … . . . . . . . . . .

Technocratic committee overseeing Gaza transition revealed
The committee will be overseen by Bulgarian former UN Middle East peace coordinator Nickolay Mladenov. The diplomat is reportedly set to serve as the high representative of a Donald Trump-led "Board of Peace" tasked with overseeing the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire. …. Meanwhile, Sami Nasman, a retired senior Palestinian Authority security officer and a longtime critic of Hamas, will become the minister of security. In 2015, a Gaza court sentenced Nasman, in absentia, to 15 years in prison for inciting "chaos" and allegedly orchestrating assassination attempts against Hamas leaders, Asharq al-Awsat reported.

Major Aleppo offensive looms as Syria moves on Kurdish SDF positions
A government announcement on Wednesday said that SDF-controlled areas to the west of the Euphrates were now a "closed military zone" and called on "all armed groups in this area" to withdraw to the east of the river. On Thursday, the Syrian army gave civilians around Deir Hafer a deadline to leave the area before a battle for the town begins, which appears to be part of a plan for a wider offensive to capture SDF territories to the west of the Euphrates River.

India shuts Kashmir medical college – after Muslims earned most admissions
As soon as local Hindu groups found out about the religious composition of the college’s inaugural batch in November, they launched demonstrations demanding that the admission of Muslim students be scrapped. They argued that since the college was chiefly funded from the offerings of devotees at Mata Vaishno Devi Temple, a prominent Hindu shrine in Kashmir, Muslim students had “no business being there”. US appeals court reverses decision that freed Mahmoud Khalil from ICE detention
A 2-1 panel of the Philadelphia-based third US circuit court of appeals ordered the dismissal of a lawsuit Khalil filed challenging his detention after finding that federal immigration law stripped the lower court of jurisdiction over his claims. Khalil’s legal battle has been unfolding in two different courts. While an immigration court was considering his potential removal from the US, his lawyers simultaneously challenged the legality of his detention in federal court, arguing that it violated his constitutional rights. Thursday’s decision finds that the district court judge who ordered his release lacked the proper authority to consider Khalil’s release petition, concluding that the judge did not have subject-matter jurisdiction over the case.

2nd federal officer shooting in Minneapolis prompts protests, calls for calm
The Department of Homeland Security said a federal law enforcement officer shot a person in Minneapolis on Wednesday evening, saying the latter fled a traffic stop and then – along with two other people – began attacking the officer. "Fearing for his life and safety as he was being ambushed by three individuals, the officer fired defensive shots to defend his life," DHS said in a statement on social media. "The initial subject was hit in the leg."

Pregnancy prosecutions are on the rise
At least 412 pregnant women were charged with child abuse, neglect or other crimes related to pregnancy or pregnancy loss in the two years after the Supreme Court overturned the national right to abortion, the advocacy group Pregnancy Justice found. That's compared with an average of about 85 cases annually in the 16 years leading up to the June 2022 decision, though cases ranged from 29 to 158 per year over that period. The Dobbs ruling immediately gave more weight to "personhood" laws conferring full legal rights to fetuses, said Dana Sussman, senior vice president at Pregnancy Justice. It also opened the door to criminal prosecutions of women who used abortion pills or had miscarriages, although only nine cases between 2022 and 2024 explicitly mentioned abortion.

Tortilla, broccoli, ‘a piece of chicken’: US agriculture secretary mocked for ‘money-saving’ meal
The US agriculture secretary, Brooke Rollins, is facing ridicule from congressional Democrats – among others – after claiming Americans can save money and have their meals align with new Department of Health and Human Services dietary guidelines by simply eating “a piece of chicken, a piece of broccoli”, “a corn tortilla” and “one other thing”.

Prisons, probation, and crime: Britain’s state machinery at breaking point
When he became Prime Minister in 2019, Boris Johnson promised more police, more prison spaces, longer sentencing, and better prison security. Similar promises were made by Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss before they took the helm. Not wishing to be outflanked by his friends on the other side of the house, Starmer put ‘law and order’ at the heart of his election campaign, praising the methods of Thatcher. He – laughably – promised to restore public confidence in the police. However, at the same time as making these big (and expensive!) promises, these same parties have continuously made cuts to the services they would need to do this. They can promise all they want, but the state’s institutions are too overburdened and underfunded – its staff too overstretched and demoralised – to carry out any of these law and order pledges.

No War but Class War: Revolutionary Defeatism in the Russo-Ukrainian Conflict
The war between Russia and Ukraine is often presented as a clear-cut narrative of imperial aggression versus national defence. In mainstream discourse, Russia is portrayed as the sole aggressor, with Ukraine as a victim bravely defending its sovereignty. However, this oversimplified framing serves the interests of Western imperialism, NATO expansionism, and global capitalist powers, while conveniently ignoring the complexities of the conflict—particularly the long-standing tensions in the Donbas region. From an anarcho-communist perspective, the story is not about good versus evil states but about imperialism, nationalism, and the manipulation of working-class people by ruling elites. A more nuanced analysis recognises that the seeds of this war were planted long before the 2022 invasion, especially in the political and military developments following the 2014 Maidan uprising and the subsequent conflict in Donbas. Acknowledging that Ukraine played a role in escalating this conflict—particularly through its actions in Donbas—does not justify Russian imperialism. Instead, anarchists must reject both Russian and Ukrainian state violence, embracing revolutionary defeatism. In this war, as in all wars between states, the true enemy is not the “other” nation but the capitalist class and state structures that profit from bloodshed. Our rallying cry must remain: No War but Class War.

Karl Liebknecht: In Spite of Everything!
This article, originally titled Trotz Alledem! is the last ever article by Karl Liebknecht, written hours before his murder by the proto-fascist Freikorps (at the behest of Ebert and Noske). It is a supplement to Rosa Luxemburg’s Order Prevails in Berlin (also written hours before her murder), even though the latter was published a day later. The article is a response to the suppression of the Spartacist uprising in Berlin at the beginning of 1919, which ended with a brutal defeat and the assassination of their ideological leaders. It provides the historical context for the uprising, a report on the ongoing operations to put down the revolt, the conditions that led to its defeat, and the logical conclusion of the situation. This work should be very carefully studied by anyone, who wishes to understand the full depth and tragedy of the German Revolution. We have maintained the original phraseology, terminology and layout of the pamphlet to the best of our abilities, while also adhering to the MIA layout standards. However, the footnotes are wholly ours and simply serve to inform the reader of the context. Liebknecht uses a lot of allegorical language, theological and mythological references, hence a special attention should be paid to capitalizations.

Rosa Luxemburg: Order Prevails in Berlin
“Order prevails in Warsaw!” declared Minister Sebastiani to the Paris Chamber of Deputies in 1831, when after having stormed the suburb of Praga, Paskevich’s marauding troops invaded the Polish capital to begin their butchery of the rebels. “Order prevails in Berlin!” So proclaims the bourgeois press triumphantly, so proclaim Ebert and Noske, and the officers of the “victorious troops,” who are being cheered by the petty-bourgeois mob in Berlin waving handkerchiefs and shouting “Hurrah!” The glory and honor of German arms have been vindicated before world history. Those who were routed in Flanders and the Argonne have restored their reputation with a brilliant victory – over three hundred “Spartacists” in the Vorwärts building. The days when glorious German troops first crossed into Belgium, and the days of General von Emmich, the conqueror of Liege, pale before the exploits of Reinhardt and Co. in the streets of Berlin. The government’s rampaging troops massacred the mediators who had tried to negotiate the surrender of the Vorwärts building, using their rifle butts to beat them beyond recognition. Prisoners who were lined up against the wall and butchered so violently that skull and brain tissue splattered everywhere. In the sight of glorious deeds such as those, who would remember the ignominious defeat at the hands of the French, British, and Americans? Now “Spartacus” is the enemy, Berlin is the place where our officers can savor triumph, and Noske, “the worker,” is the general who can lead victories where Ludendorff failed. Who is not reminded of that drunken celebration by the “law and order” mob in Paris, that Bacchanal of the bourgeoisie celebrated over the corpses of the Communards? That same bourgeoisie who had just shamefully capitulated to the Prussians and abandoned the capital to the invading enemy, taking to their heels like abject cowards. Oh, how the manly courage of those darling sons of the bourgeoisie, of the “golden youth,” and of the officer corps flared back to life against the poorly armed, starving Parisian proletariat and their defenseless women and children. How these courageous sons of Mars, who had buckled before the foreign enemy, raged with bestial cruelty against defenseless people, prisoners, and the fallen.
