Haiti officials announce plan to oust prime minister, deepening US standoff
On Friday, United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement that he had spoken to Fils-Aime and “emphasised the importance of his continued tenure as Haiti’s Prime Minister to combat terrorist gangs and stabilise the island”. Mexico weighs stopping oil shipments to Cuba amid concerns of Trump retaliation, sources say
Publicly, Sheinbaum has said Mexico will continue oil shipments to Cuba, saying they are based on longterm contracts and considered international aid. But the senior Mexican government sources said the policy is under internal review as anxiety grows within Sheinbaum's cabinet that the shipments could antagonize Trump. Mexico is trying to negotiate a review of the USMCA North American trade pact, while also persuading Washington it is doing enough to combat drug cartels and that U.S. military action against the groups on Mexican territory is neither welcome nor needed.

The U.S. warning was delivered repeatedly over the past two months by the U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Baghdad, Joshua Harris, in conversations with Iraqi officials and influential Shia leaders, according to three Iraqi officials and one source familiar with the matter who spoke to Reuters for this story. UAE abruptly cuts aid to vital hospitals after withdrawing from Yemen
UAE-funded hospitals played a vital role for Yemenis after more than a decade of conflict had damaged public health infrastructure and left many unable to afford private healthcare. Patients from far and wide sought these these facilities in search of high-quality, free healthcare. Many undertake long journeys to access specialised surgeries that are unavailable in public hospitals and prohibitively expensive in private clinics.

Australian, Palestinian lawyers seek police probe of Israeli president
Three Australian and Palestinian legal groups have formally called on the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to investigate Israeli President Isaac Herzog for his role in alleged war crimes amid reports he will visit Australia early next month. The organisations said on Friday that they had written to “urgently alert” the AFP of their concerns “in light of serious and credible criminal allegations of incitement to genocide and advocating genocide” by President Isaac Herzog during Israel’s “military onslaught” in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

Thousands in unsafe homes following 'catastrophic' government insulation schemes
Major defects have been identified in more than 30,000 homes fitted with insulation under the Eco4 and Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) since 2022, according to a damning report by the Commons public accounts committee. The committee said the schemes were so badly designed they were almost “bound to fail” and warned that the extreme level of non-compliance by installers should be investigated for fraud.

California suing Trump administration over Sable oil pipeline restart

The Year of the Billionaire Tax
In 2025 alone, the six richest men in the country (and world) became $476 billion richer. During that year, the Trump regime cut back Medicaid — the federal medical assistance program relied on by over seventy million Americans, including four out of ten children — in order to bankroll lowering taxes for the rich. The bulk of the cuts are expected to hit Medicaid programs following the 2026 midterm elections, and they will hit ordinary Americans hard. Donald Trump’s 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill Act will raise out-of-pocket costs dramatically and kick millions of people off insurance, many of them children, as well as nearly a third of young people between the ages of eighteen and twenty-four. For California’s state medical assistance program, Medi-Cal, federal cuts are expected to drain $100 million over the next five years, potentially collapsing the state’s health care system. That means millions of people losing coverage and families needing to make hideous choices between food, housing, and medicine, as so many are already forced to. It means hospitals and clinics closing and tens of thousands of health care jobs evaporating. For a state already struggling with vast inequality and a homelessness crisis, it would have a catastrophic impact. Fun fact: there are 214 billionaires residing in California worth a collective $2 trillion. If you carved out just 5 percent of that hoarded wealth for public use, you could fill the Medi-Cal gap and fund the state’s health care system. That’s precisely what a proposed ballot initiative aims to do.

Israel Is Turning the Yellow Line Splitting Gaza into a Physical Barrier
The Israeli military is turning the yellow line that demarcates the more than half of the Gaza Strip it occupies and controls into a physical border. Analysis of satellite imagery by Forensic Architecture shows that the Israeli military has begun constructing earth berms—large, raised mounds of earth—in areas along the yellow line to create a physical separation between the Palestinian population forced to live in the western half of the enclave, and Israeli forces who occupy the eastern half. Israeli troops withdrew to the yellow line after the so-called ceasefire agreement went into effect on October 10. Since then, they have engaged in a combination of construction of military infrastructure and roads in the over 53% of the territory that it controls—alongside the systematic destruction of existing buildings. Previously, the yellow line was only drawn in Israeli maps or delineated by the military’s placement of physical yellow blocks—a total of 38 counted by Forensic Architecture—some of which have been moved hundreds of meters further into Gaza in some places, taking over even more Palestinian land. This is the case in Jabaliya, for example, where the berms follow the path of the yellow blocks that Israel has been extending into the area under its control, but beyond the line marked on its own maps. Some of the berms have been constructed across roads, cutting them in half. The construction of berms along the yellow line, which began last month, is creating a physical barrier that cuts off Palestinians from the Israeli-controlled zone and the rest of Gaza.

Greenland, Trump, Britain, and the crisis of the ‘special relationship’
Keir Starmer’s knees must be feeling pretty worn out by now. After all, the British Prime Minister has spent the last 18 months crawling around on them, in an effort to appease his masters in Washington. There are many names for such subservient behaviour: grovelling, fawning, toadying, kowtowing, bootlicking, ass-kissing – and many other more impolite euphemisms beside. Whatever you call it, this sorry spectacle is a truly nauseating and embarrassing sight to behold. And the latest dramatic events surrounding Greenland – with Donald Trump threatening to take a wrecking ball to the old western order in pursuit of the giant, resource-rich, strategically-important island – have only put Starmer and the rest of the British establishment in an even more compromising, painful position.
