Curious what people's thoughts on Liberia are.

It was founded by freed slaves, but there must have been people there. Was there the same kind of contradiction that we see in Palestine with the Israeli colonizers? Or in the US/Canada with Indigenous? Or was it peaceful

I would say no after the second Liberian civil war and the longstanding Americo-Liberian minority rule was ended but it did start as a colonial state. The Americo-Liberian's who were descended from freed African-American and African-Caribbean slaves subjugated and enslaved the native people in Liberia almost the second they landed and their ethnic group were at the top of hierarchy.

It's a bit of a stretch to call it a state thqh

Wow they enslaved the native Africans?
Why does this always happen.
Just the Israelis genociding Gaza and carrying out pogroms in West Bank.

It's like the oppressed groups look at their oppressor as a handy guide to running a state rather than what to avoid.

I think since the Americo Liberians controlled the state they would pay off native group chiefs to provide them with people to become laborers so they could buy loyalty from a local elite and they would profit from slave labor which was largely used on rubber plantations.

>>2677853
all i know is they killed 2 million people to suppress wages for rubber

Liberia's constitution is the exact same as America's
and so they rape babies in Liberia to this day thinking it cures aids

Also the same nation which pardoned General Buttnaked the cannibal warlord who raped children and had an army of child soldiers and he is now considered a priest.
The crazy part is that theres thousands like him in Liberia but they don't get the coverage, not the fact that he has been pardoned, some similar war criminals are in government.

Average liberian political party…
all of them are extremely pro-austriety and have a messed up history. All of them are founded by messed up people.
AFAIK Liberia has never had a communist party.

TL;DR there is nothing good about Liberia. It is argueably worse than India. I think its even worse than Burundi which despite being considered the poorest nation on earth is still relatively peaceful compared to Liberia and generally Burundi has a lot more potential for growth than Liberia does.

Potentially thermo-nuclear level take with contentious fall-out, but here we go:
Liberia demonstrates that an American colony, even if founded by an oppressed and marginalised part of American society, would end up even more fucked up than almost everything England, France, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy left in their wake. And that's a demonic accomplishment if there is one.

Somalia might be more stable than Liberia, because Somalia (excluding Somaliland) is at least controlled by islamists, which are not as insane and erratic as the warlords in Liberia.

Liberia is like a thousand LRA's crammed into one territory… with spillover.
As for those who don't know what the Lord's Resistance Army is, its a christian terrorist organization that kidnaps children, rapes them and uses child soldiers to try to establish a theocracy among other things. That by itself is insane but in Liberia such warlords and armies are common.

I remember a big stink in the early 2010s about this Kony guy and everything in the west was clamoring to capture him. Is he the leader of the LRA?

>>2678286
He's one of the leaders, he's still alive, even Wagner have been trying to capture him and have fought against the LRA

>>2678269

would transition had save them?

>>2678313
Laying off the cocaine might have helped.
