Your Party under Corbyn to work with Greens on ‘coordinated left-flank offensive’
After winning a comprehensive victory to become the de facto leader of the leftwing startup party on Thursday, Corbyn will seek to rebuild bridges with pro-Gaza communities “alienated” by his rival Zarah Sultana, sources close to Corbyn said. Corbyn will become Your Party’s parliamentary leader, after an election in which Sultana was also voted on to the party’s leadership committee under its collective leadership model. Corbyn-backed candidates took 14 of the 24 available places on the party’s central executive committee (CEC). Sultana-backed candidates took seven of the seats and three went to independents.

Varoufakis’ party, which goes by the acronym Mera25, accused the rightwing New Democracy party of targeting Varoufakis because “he speaks the truth”. “Although the Greek justice system’s stance on this case has provided much amusement to Greek society… this story is nonetheless dangerous,” a statement on Mera25’s website said.

Local communities in Croatia oppose mega-farm project
Thousands of people protested against a poultry mega-farm project in Croatia’s Sisak-Moslavina region, warning it would bring health and environmental devastation to local communities. The project envisions nearly 20 industrial sites in areas adjacent to nature parks and regions affected by deindustrialization. For months, a coalition of local initiatives and climate justice groups has contested the plan, while national authorities have evaded calls for action.

Tunisia court blocks closure of factory blamed for pollution
"The argument that there is no evidence of harm can only be seen as a blatant disregard of established and documented facts," the Tunisian Forum for Social and Economic Rights added. It said the pollution was not an allegation but "confirmed by official reports". Locals in Gabes have for years rallied against the phosphate-processing factory, which makes fertilisers mainly for export.

Israel’s top court allows aid groups facing Gaza ban to continue working
In a statement after Friday’s ruling, Shaina Low, communication adviser for the Norwegian Refugee Council, said the decision was welcome, but pointed to the difficulties that aid agencies continue to face in Gaza. “The injunction pauses immediate closure. It does not restore visas, reopen access or resolve the wider restrictions that continue to affect aid delivery. “Despite a ceasefire agreement, conditions in Gaza remain catastrophic, and humanitarian needs in the West Bank continue to grow,” said Low.

Venezuela suspends 19 oil, gas production-sharing contracts signed under Maduro, sources say
The suspension has had no impact on the country's oil and gas output so far, the sources said. State oil giant PDVSA is selling the crude produced under the contracts while they are suspended, they added. Caracas and Washington would review the contracts and may recommend revoking some of them, the sources said. The Venezuelan and U.S. governments are reviewing the credentials of the companies that signed them, the sources added. Some of the companies are little-known and the deals were signed while Venezuela was under U.S. sanctions.

Air attacks on Kabul push Pakistan-Taliban crisis into uncharted territory
Pakistan launched air strikes on Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, as well as on Kandahar and Paktia, early on Friday. The attacks targeted Taliban military installations as Islamabad declared “open war” on the group’s government, in the most serious military confrontation between the two neighbours in years. The strikes came hours after Afghan forces launched coordinated cross-border attacks on Pakistani military positions in six border provinces late on Thursday. Kabul claimed 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 19 outposts captured.

Trump on Friday said: “They have no money, they have no anything right now. But they’re talking with us and maybe we’ll have a friendly takeover of Cuba.”

Senate Dems united on Iran procedure but not policy
Nearly all Democrats are insistent that Congress needs to be consulted, but they are less clear on whether the U.S. should strike Iran to thwart its nuclear ambitions. Schumer, like many of his colleagues, is avoiding complicated policy questions by emphasizing Democratic unity on procedural matters. Asked by Axios whether he personally supports a strike on Iran, Schumer said: "The administration should come clean and tell the American people their goals." It's a line — and essentially a policy dodge — he's repeated all week.

Georgia’s child welfare system remains shaken after projected $85.7 million budget shortfall
With Candice Broce, commissioner of the Department of Human Services and director of the child welfare agency it oversees, taking a number of cost-saving measures in November, it’s meant fewer visits between children and parents needed for family reunification, less time for aides to spend helping foster parents care for children with complex needs and juvenile court dates needing to be postponed when children have no transportation to get there.

Your Party has the chance of a fresh start
YOUR PARTY now has the chance to make a fresh start following the conclusion of the election to its first central executive committee, the party’s collective leadership. The poll saw supporters of the slate backed by Jeremy Corbyn secure a clear majority, meaning Corbyn will be named the new left party’s parliamentary leader. He rightly called the result a vote “for a mass, socialist party that takes the fight to Starmer and Farage.” He added that the party now has “a precious opportunity to unite our movement around a bold vision for this country — one that creates a more caring, equal and peaceful world for all. “Together, we can provide hope to those who are fed up with inequality, disempowered by poverty and disgusted by war — and build a society that cares for all,” he said. That was certainly the original vision for the party when it was first launched by Corbyn and fellow MP Zarah Sultana last summer. It has, however, spent the intervening months systematically burning through the enormous initial goodwill their announcement secured, to the point where its viability as more than a marginal force in political life may be questioned.

Lebanon’s Communists and the Disarming of Hezbollah
In the east and south of Lebanon, Israel continues its bombing campaign. After the latest attacks, in which several Hezbollah members were killed, the group has raised its rhetorical pitch. It has again vowed to fight back, despite being severely weakened after the 2024 war. For the last four decades, Hezbollah had held an effective monopoly on Lebanese resistance against Israel. But it was neither the first to pick up arms nor to support the Palestinian cause from Lebanese soil. So Hanna Gharib, general secretary of the Lebanese Communist Party (LCP) tells me, at the party’s headquarters in Beirut. “We started the resistance,” he points out. Even before the foundation of Israel in 1948, the Lebanese Communists fought side by side with Palestinian left-wingers against Zionist right-wing militias. When the civil war broke out in Lebanon in 1975, the Communists again joined the fight. “We liberated three-quarters of the territory when Israel invaded in 1982. We began in Beirut and then continued south,” he tells me. But the Communists were fighting an uphill battle. “Before the fall of the USSR, we received our weapons from the Soviets,” Gharib continues. But when the Soviet Union fell, arms deliveries stopped. At the same time, Iran had advanced its positions in Lebanon. A loosely organized group called “Islamic Amal” carried out several massacres of LCP members. In 1985, Hezbollah was officially founded. In 1987, over forty Communists were killed within ten days. “First, they killed our leaders and then the intellectuals in the party. They attacked us because we were a national resistance. We had members from all religions. They wanted a monopoly on the resistance and to impose their ideas and values on everyone,” says Gharib.

Amadeo Bordiga: Party and Class Action
In a previous article where we elaborated certain fundamental theoretical concepts, we have shown not only that there is no contradiction in the fact that the political party of the working class, the indispensable instrument in the struggles for the emancipation of this class, includes in its ranks only a part, a minority, of the class, but we also have shown that we cannot speak of a class in historical movement without the existence of a party which has a precise consciousness of this movement and its aims, and which places itself at the vanguard of this movement in the struggle. A more detailed examination of the historical tasks of the working class on its revolutionary course, both before and after the overthrow of the power of the exploiters, will only confirm the imperative necessity of a political party which must direct the whole struggle of the working class. In order to have a precise, tangible idea of the technical necessity of the party, we should first consider – even if it may seem illogical – the tasks that the proletariat must accomplish after having come to power and after having wrenched the control of the social machine from the bourgeoisie. After having conquered control of the state the proletariat must undertake complex functions. In addition to replacing the bourgeoisie in the direction and administration of public matters, it must construct an entirely new and different administrative and governmental machinery, with immensely more complex aims than those comprising the “governmental art” of today. These functions require a regimentation of individuals capable of performing diverse functions, of studying various problems, and of applying certain criteria to the different sectors of collective life: these criteria are derived from the general revolutionary principles and correspond to the necessity which compels the proletarian class to break the bonds of the old regime in order to set up new social relationships.
