Spain denies US permission to use jointly operated bases to attack Iran
Spain’s socialist prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, has explicitly condemned the US and Israel’s “unilateral military action” against Iran, warning that it is contributing to “a more hostile and uncertain international order”. The rebukes have been reinforced by his government’s refusal to allow the US to use bases in Rota and Morón for the continuing strikes against Iran.

The DPP said the victims were rescued in an operation from an apartment complex in Athi River, a town in Machakos County, last September, before they could leave the country. SACP breaks from ANC, eyes full ward presence in local polls
The SACP is optimistic about its chances in this year’s local government elections, despite its poor showing in two recent by-elections it has contested. The party garnered one per cent of the vote in two successive by-elections, which took place in Limpopo late last year. It has opted to contest elections on its own, abandoning its alliance partner, the ANC, in the upcoming municipal polls. SACP National Spokesperson, Mbulelo Mandlana, says that there is a marked difference between contesting one ward in a by-election and competing for a municipality in a national election.

Jailed for losing a pregnancy: how progress on El Salvador’s harsh anti-abortion law is unravelling
Advocates say those emergency powers have quietly expanded into hospitals, ensnaring women who suffer miscarriages, stillbirths and other obstetric emergencies. “We are experiencing a new spiral of criminalisation against women,” says Herrera, who is the former president of Citizens’ Group for the Decriminalisation of Abortion. In a further sign of the increasingly restrictive environment, the group, which was the only organisation in El Salvador campaigning for the decriminalisation of abortion, announced its legal dissolution on Monday, saying the political climate had become “incompatible” with its work.

Argentine Unions Move to Block Labor Reform
Unions grouped under the General Confederation of Labor will submit legal motions starting Monday to invalidate the reform promoted by President Javier Milei and passed by the Senate on Friday, according to sources from the federation’s legal team. The legal strategy will present multiple arguments, including that the legislation contravenes the constitutional principle of progressivity, also known as non-regression, and restricts fundamental principles of union organization and protest.

Hegseth says US won’t get ‘bogged down’ in Iran – but doesn’t rule out sending troops
The US secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, has called the joint US-Israeli strikes in Iran the “most lethal and precise air power campaign in history”, indicated the US did not plan to effect a democratic transition in Iran – and refused to establish a clear timeline for how long the US operation will continue.

Iran strikes inject chaos into Dem primaries
In North Carolina, progressive House candidate Nida Allam is seizing on the issue as an 11th-hour appeal against Rep. Valerie Foushee (D-N.C.) before their March 3 primary. Graham Platner, the firebrand left-wing Senate candidate in Maine, organized an "emergency protest" against war in Iran on Sunday. Several other candidates in contested Democratic primaries have sent out fundraising appeals and other campaign messages about the issue, mostly positioning themselves against the administration.

Florida bill would create a CIA-style counterintelligence, counterterrorism unit
House Bill 945 would require FDLE to establish the CIA-style unit at one of its regional operational centers and assign a team to each of the state’s seven regional domestic security task forces. The bill says the unit’s mission would be to “detect, identify, neutralize, and exploit” what it defines as adversary intelligence entities — a category that includes foreign governments, corporations, nongovernmental organizations, insurgent groups and “any…person whose demonstrated actions, views, or opinions are a threat or are inimical to the interests of this state and the United States.”

Statement of the Tudeh Party of Iran: The Death of the Dictator, the People’s Demand for Transition from the Anti-People Regime of the Guardianship of the Jurist, and the Necessity of an Immediate Ceasefire and Creating the Conditions for the People to Determine Their Own Destiny and Lives
Following the aggressive attacks by Netanyahu’s criminal regime and U.S. imperialism on Iranian soil, Ali Khamenei—the regime’s Supreme Leader and a dictator who over the past thirty-seven years, through destructive policies and the reactionary ideology of “political Islam,” drove the country to the brink of war and destruction—along with a number of his family members and close associates, as well as some commanders of the Revolutionary Guard and repressors of the people, have been killed. Over the past thirty-seven years, as the absolute Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei determined the country’s major economic policies and political direction and was the principal figure responsible for the bloody and violent suppression of any protest against the destructive policies of the Islamic Republic. By implementing economic policies aimed at securing the interests of big capital, he drove tens of millions of Iranians into poverty and deprivation. His family and close associates also plundered the nation’s wealth and resources. The death of the regime’s Supreme Leader can mark the beginning of developments that open a path toward the people’s rule over their own destiny and lives and the dawning of freedom and justice in the country. At the same time, we know that U.S. imperialism and its regional allies—especially Netanyahu’s racist government—and their Iranian agents such as Reza Pahlavi, harbor sinister plans to destroy the country and its capabilities, to turn Iran into a U.S. semi-colony in the region, or to entangle Iran in prolonged ethnic-religious civil wars (as in Libya or Syria), with the aim of completely destroying national sovereignty and fragmenting Iran.

No War on Iran: We Must Build an Anti-Imperialist Movement to Stop Trump
On Saturday morning, Israel and the United States launched a massive airstrike on Iran after weeks of negotiations in which the United States sought to impose its interests using the threat of the largest military buildup in the region since the Iraq War. The bombings began this morning in Tehran. Israel confirmed its participation in the attacks, which it called “preemptive strikes,” according to the Defense Ministry. The United States launched the attacks from the USS Lincoln, located in the southern Gulf. According to the New York Times, U.S. officials expect the attack to be far more extensive than the U.S. strikes last June against Iran’s nuclear facilities during the “Twelve-Day War.” The operation, dubbed “Lion’s Roar” by Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has already targeted the cities of Tehran, Qom, Kermanshah, Isfahan, and Karaj. According to several sources, the attacks are targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, its ballistic missile program, and key regime officials. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been evacuated.

Israeli society is intoxicated by war and the dream of expansion. It cannot last
“Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever.” This quote comes from George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, and in the wake of the US-Israeli attack on Iran - which killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, shocking the Muslim world and destabilising the entire region - it is hard not to see the connection to recent events. The unprovoked onslaught, which came despite apparent progress in negotiations in Oman, now threatens the lives of millions of people across the region. It follows US President Donald Trump’s repeated promise to end conflicts, representing another Orwellian inversion: “War is peace, peace is war.” The escalation also comes in the context of recent statements by US ambassador Mike Huckabee endorsing Israel’s right to expand its borders from the Nile to the Euphrates, while Israel continues its drive to seize more Palestinian lands; and the Munich speech by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which expressed a desire to restore western greatness through a return to colonialism, to the delight of European political elites. The US and Israel are eliminating political and religious leaders, amid blatant disregard for the sentiments of the peoples of the Global South - and for the long-term consequences in reframing world politics. We do not need to imagine how the new world order will unfold. Rather, we must examine Israel and Israeli society in light of the present reality, including the romanticisation of war and broad support for mobilising the machinery of war.
