While unsustainable, the idea of a Jewish homeland or land where and Jewish person is safe is an appealing one, but it comes at the expense of sweeping all the ethnic cleansing bit out of sight and mind. This is quite easy for American Jews and diasporic Jews generally to mindwipe if they are not living daily in Israel. Even with all the last decade of history, you can still just tune out and retreat into your own alternate reality if you don't tune in to international news or national politics. Also, we can't rule out the extent that Israel itself, as an organized, sovereign state, is capable of astroturfing American Jewish organizations worldwide and exploiting their division and atomization to sow Zionism into Jewish cultural practice. A state can organize diasporic communities through concentrated planning and operations moreso than the reverse happening.
