It is worth pointing out time and time again that several Muslim-majority nations have sent delegations to Xinjiang and concluded that a genocide of the Uyghur people is *not happening*. (

This is not the same as the US making slaves sleep on cabin floors and pick cotton 12 hours a day. Former extremists and members of far right Islamic separatist groups like ETIM are being re-educated, which is the most "problematic" aspect of all of this but it's nothing compared to American ICE detainment centers or the abuses that go on in the American agricultural sector, let alone the absolutely homocidal US-led or US-backed wars waged against the civilians in Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Somalia, and Yemen, or the shadow wars waged by AFRICOM, or the unaccountable torture going on in Guantanamo Bay and various CIA black sites. The US has more than 750 military bases outside its country, while China has less than 10. America, England, France, Japan and Australia are imperialist genocidal colonizer nations that have enabled global fascism over and over and have no place leading the charge in any kind of interventionist campaign against human rights abuses in China. They are merely interested in getting their own citizens outraged about what's going on in China, and distracted from the Capitalist decay at home that they are *actually capable of doing something about*.

If you want to have a real discussion about this… consider this. I once felt the same way you do about post-Deng China. I thought they had "betrayed communism" yada yada yada. But if you look at what happened to the USSR, you would understand that the best thing China could have done for itself was appear to become capitalist on the surface, avoid getting couped by the CIA, build up its military capability and its economy, do clever diplomacy to avoid capitalist encirclement, and force the imperialist west to become totally dependent on Chinese manufacturing. Did it sacrifice a generation of Chinese workers to poor labor conditions? Yes. What was the alternative? Sacrificing all future generations of Chinese to a US-backed coup like the one carried out against other socialist third world nations. The "Dengist" compromise was a compromise, but I think in the long run it worked out. If you read the works of Deng Xiaoping he makes it explicit that he is not betraying Socialism, but protecting China from the West. Even Lenin's earliest writings (circa 1893) are about how agrarian third world economies need to build up a capitalist mode of production and become proletarianized before a socialist revolution can be carried out. China proved that wrong, but it still had to play catch up to avoid getting couped by a much more powerful United States.

It's usually a sign that you think the joke is too esoteric for your target audience, so I think it's better to reform the joke for that audience or to keep it as an in-joke, rather than have to explain the joke inside the joke, heavily defusing it.
You could go with something like:
