Polling also shows that British men are more left wing than many countries women (because there's no real male/female divide in the UK when compared elsewhere. Young men have swung left - at a lower rate, yes - but not right like elsewhere)
Glibly I would say it's that the social status of the average man has declined and the responses to this (seething losers who, for the most part, aren't even "ordinary" guys, but are instead usually benefitting in one way - say financial capital - but mad that it hasn't brought social capital) have only pulled it down further.
