>hungarian decleration of war and fdr's bizarre speech about it
Basically in Hungary under Regent Horthy Horthy himself never engaged too directly in governance and formally he was just a figurehead and the prime minister was chosen through elections, but these elections had a very limited electorate and it was always a single party puppeted by Horthy which won the elections and the prime minister too was effectively chosen by him.
About half a year before the start of WW2, Pál Teleki was made the prime minister because many member of the ruling elite felt that the previous prime minister was too subservient to Germany (the way that the previous prime minister was made to resign is quite funny in itself - some people revealed that despite his very strong anti-semitism he is in fact of Jewish descent). This Pál Teleki guy actually refused to invade Poland together with Germany even though Germany kept annexing land to Hungary from neighboring countries to fulfill its irredentist territorial claims (Horthy's regime spent the whole interwar period with obsessing over these claims btw). In late 1940 he was involved in making a treaty of friendship between Hungary and the then pro-German Yugoslavia - keep in mind that entering into diplomatic relations with neighbouring countries was very hard for Hungary because it had territorial claims against every single one of them.
And then in early 1941 an anti-German coup happens in Yugoslavia and thus Hitler decides that he wants to invade Yugoslavia. This required German troops to pass through Hungary. Pál Teleki was threatened by Hitler that if he didn't allow this, then they will declare war on Hungary. He was then informed by the British ambassador that if he allowed Germany to attack Yugoslavia, they will too declare war on Hungary.
Both his superior and his subordinate went behind his back - Horthy agreed to Germany's demands and the chief of the Hungarian General Staff started privately making arrangements with Germany in letting them attack Yugoslavia from Hungary.
Not long after he was found at his prime ministerial residence with a pistol in his hand, a gunshot wound to his head and a letter next to him addressed to Horthy:
<Your Serene Highness:
<We broke our word, - out of cowardice - , with respect to the Treaty of Permanent Peace outlined in your Mohács speech. The nation feels it, and we have thrown away its honor.
<We have allied ourselves to scroundels, - since not a single word is true about the alleged atrocities. Not against Hungarians, not even against Germans. We will become body-snatchers! A nation of trash. I did not hold you back. I am guilty". Signed: Pál Teleki
He was then replaced with a pro-German prime minister who declared war on Yugoslavia which resulted in Hungary receiving even more land on the behalf of Hitler.

>The atomic warheads lost at the Palomares sea.<On 1966, an american b-52 collisioned another plane and dropped the H-bombs it had at the sea near Palomares, a town of southern spain. These bombs didn't implode, and a minister of Spain, in order to prove the beaches were safe, bathed in them. To this day, there is still radiation emanating from the unexploded bombs. https://m.elmostrador.cl/noticias/mundo/2013/01/17/la-bomba-atomica-que-ee-uu-perdio-en-espana/In fact I don't know if they landed on the sea or in land, (I think it was in land).
They haven't yet gotten out of there, proclaiming that it's better that way so we "don't disturbe the plutonium".
There's an actual megaton, and it's in Spain.
In southern spain there's also an underwater egyptian mummy, which was being transported by ship but the ship went down (it was 1838) and the mummy is still there.

>ww2 deep lore
Very lazy post incoming and it's only tangentially related since it started before WW2 and likely continues to this day but I think it's intriguing how the history of special forces tends to be closely related to old noble bloodlines, esoteric wankery and of course, fascism.
The first example that comes to my mind is the Italian "black prince" Borghese, commander of the navy's X MAS commandos who were pioneers in underwater raiding tactics and who, by all accounts, had a very respectable record compared to the performance of Italian regulars. Borghese went beyond a regular Italian fascist and was also an avowed Nazi, often seen wearing a german iron cross on his uniform.
At the end of the war Borghese was such an upstanding nazi that the American OSS had no choice but to help him escape, and a few decades later got caught planning a fascist coup in the but was forced to run like a bitch to fellow facist Franco's Spain once his plans went public.
Also as an interesting note, the X MAS was noted to be very effective in their raids against the allies but eventually their scope shifted into anti-communist partisan action on land, despite being a navy unit. The X MAS often teamed up with the SS to terrorize civilian populations in order to snuff out partisans with zealous brutality, employing every single barbaric method and device they could come up with no matter how much of a war crime it is - in fact, the war crimer it is the better it seemed.
I bet if you dig up the story of any (ANY) first world special forces unit you're bound to find some inbred noble faggot, Thelema-tier fuckery and/or actual nazi worship in there for no discernible reason.

Between 1915 and 1922, Mussolini fought in five duels, winning all of them.
The duels were against the Socialist deputies Claudio Treves and Francesco Ciccotti Scozzese, the newsman Mario Missiroli, the anarchist Libero Merlino, and Major Cristoforo Baseggio.
The duels, however, were against the law, and therefore Mussolini had judiciary problems because of them.
In 1921, Benito Mussolini challenged an anti-Fascist newspaper editor named Francesco Ciccotti to a duel with swords. Mussolini injured Ciccotti badly enough that he was unable to continue the fight. The man later fled the country when Mussolini did his March on Rome.
The duel with the director of the newspaper Il Secolo di Milano, Mario Missiroli, happened on the outskirts of Milano on 13 May 1922.
The quarrel between Mussolini and Missiroli started when the latter published an article by Carlo Russo on 21 March 1922 attacking the fascist actions in defense of the agrarian workers of Lomellina, completely changing the facts.
On 10 May the quarrel escalated with the unfair coverage of the Il Secolo, which completely sided with the Socialists and the immediate response "Pietose Illusioni" from Mussolini in the Popolo d'Italia.
Feeling insulted by such article, Missiroli sent a challenge to Mussolini on 12 May, from his reporter Francesco Perotti and his sword teacher Dino Urbani.
As Missiroli was recognised as insulted, he had the right to choose the weapon. He chose the sword.
Mussolini agreed, nominating as his seconds the colonel Roberto Raggio and the engineer Mario Chiesa, both decorated and disabled veterans.
The fight lasted 40 minutes with seven assaults. On the first Mussolini broke the tip of his sword; with the third Missiroli had a minor injury but on the seventh Missiroli was badly injured at his forearm with a large loss of blood. Immediately the doctors and the seconds unanimously stopped the fight.
According to accounts of the fight, the two duelists acted in perfect chivalry but did not reconcile.

The nukes didn't make Japan Surrender, Stalin did. The Japanese hadn't even gotten their reports back on what happened in Hiroshima before they got hit in Nagasaki, they literally had no time to do so. The atomic bombings of Japan had been meant as a "message" to Stalin by Truman in an attempt to scare him.
It's not that different compared to fire bombing entire cities, that it was not necessary to end the war fast because Japan was on the brink of surrendering, and that the green-light was given for three main reasons:
1) Testing the bomb against a real target and live population for scientific and military feedback
2) Optimizing the post war US geopolitical position in a Japan that was also being invaded by the USSR
3) Preparing the cold war and sending a message to the world: look what we are capable to do.
The "we had to do it or sacrifice hundreds of thousands of soldiers" is a retcon taught in school to keep the burger fiction about being the good guys

why does everyone forget about Reinhard Gehlen, the SS man hand picked by Hitler to run Nazi military intelligence, who made deals with Dulles before the war was even over and got funding from the OSS to set up his Wehrwolf terrorist cells in europe.
Then those morphed into the Gehlen org, GLADIO and later, West German Intelligence.
The Gehlen org helped countless Nazi criminals escape justice, spiriting them away to (conveniently all US aligned) foreign countries. Amongst them would be Otto Skorzeny, Hitler's top commando, who would later become a mercenary in the employ of the CIA and South African intelligence.
Gehlen was rewarded for his service to the CIA by being picked as the founder of the BND, West Germany's intelligence agency, which he filled with Nazi criminals to such an extent that historians are actually unsure if the BND had ANY officers who weren't former SS.
He was a really shit dude. He was also instrumental in the very foundation of NATO.

(less because Poland was an innocent victim of aggression that our hearts went out to, more because we knew they wouldn't stop there.) essentially, a geopolitical motivation rather than a moral one.

I don't blame them for being ignorant (at least not completely) but it's gotten to the point that people think the USA took Berlin and SAVED Europe. That's certainly the portrayal of most American movies depicting it.
