so you've lost the first bet (which since you know nothing about me and most people use Chrome would've been a low-risk low reward bet) and, while you were correct in the second, I don't think casinos pay out when you enter, go up to a member of staff and go "bet you work here, don'cha?"

Antipathy against Tor users doesn't really make sense tbh, the only difference is that they are Anonymous but for real. A Tor user could be anyone, could be me, could be you, no one knows who they are(as long as they don't deanonymize themselves).

legitimate reasons for using Tor would be to escape surveillance and censorship(such as inside saudi arabia, you definitely would use Tor there to access the rest of the Internet). Also for whistleblowers(you could be one) and journalists who want to share information that could be fatal if they ever get caught. Also for activists, for example if trump ever gets elected it would make perfect sense for communists inside the USA to use Tor for communication.

>it's silly to call it a bet.

I mean yeah true, it's silly

It's actually not that slow unless you're downloading GB files. Obviously slower and an initial delay, but it's not like dialup any more.
>and the fact that omnipresent third-parties like Cloudflare and Google place restrictions on you?
Cloudflare is a bit easier to deal with now, but some sites like this also just have .onion addresses anyway. I don't use anything that requires Google sign-ins so no problem 4me.
How much of a pain it is depends on what you do. There are some things I have to fall back to a VPN for. But most of the time it's fine, sometimes even better because of disabling JS and getting no ads showing.

>Antipathy against Tor users doesn't really make sense tbh
it does when they're identified and it becomes apparent that the quality of their replies is consistently worse than that of the average anon, which is why there's a thread in the first place.
on /leftypol/ specifically this is unsurprising: do you think we have more paranoid autists and ban-evaders, or saudis and whistleblowers?

>>525889
the fetishisation of anonymity and its consequences have been a disaster for the imageboard race.
the number one advantage of anonymity on an imageboard, above all others, is that it means you don't have to think of a stupid name before posting and you certainly don't have to waste time registering it, you can just post. it's convenience, it's not that it leads to better arguments (ha), it's not that it stops people playing the ball and not the man (HA HA!), it's not that it stops you being tracked, it's convenience. the second advantage? that's got to be one of those? no, wrong again, it's de-facto ephemerality, that your posts are lost in a sea of other posts and deleted - if someone at the CIA is building up a big repository of them somewhee it doesn't mean shit from a usability standpoint, in a world where every message goes right to james bond's fucking telephone anonymous imageboards are ahead because they're easier to use, not because the lack of a username means the state can't also judge whether they think your posts are "based" or "cringe".

it's just a shame that 4chan means imageboard culture is full of idiots who don't understand the possibilities of a format they spend altogether too much time on.

meaningless post unless you clarify whether you mean the first part (inane, tor posters are clearly identified and so not made up.) or the second (inane, setting out the advantages of a piece of software can't fairly be called fighting anyone). even if you do so, it still won't be meaningful. it'll just be a clearer form of stupidity.

I don't agree with the premise that Glownonymous posts are worse. There's one obvious retard who keeps making vague posts, posts in lowercase, but overall they're fine.
The study fascism and auspol threads have great Glownon effort posts and the /anime/ effortposter recently is far above average anon posting. Sounds like OP just has shit taste in threads (or a conformation bias?)

>>525899
what's funny is that i thought it was just confirmation bias until this thread when i started to suspect it was statistics (if there's only 10 glowposters, you only need one idiot to make it seem like they're disproporitonately stupid) and now, more recently, the demography of people who know about Tor and care to use it.

I mean they could just change their name to "Anonymous" instead of "Glownonymous" and you wouldn't even be able to tell them apart, I could be a Tor user right now with a changed named.

If this site proves to be safe for an actual whistleblower to report their findings without the FBI and CIA finding out who they are (you need at least Tails and Tor for this), it would make this site very interesting tbh

but if I were a whistleblower, I'd probably use the guardian's secure drop:
