we still don't have a causal explanation for consciousness, we can certainly correlate it to the brain and even specific parts of it to specific brain structures, but fundamentally none of this is a causal explanation that can explain mental states entirely in terms of physical brain states. What about the information processing in humans gives it the aspect of subjective experience? How many atoms does it take to get to the center of a thought? Why are we aware of our awareness of our information processing, in a way we do not associate with any other physical phenomena? or, is animism an inevitable result of physicalism?
Obviously the future is Mecha, not robots or gene-slaves. at the very least you are going to want to have a few smarter humans around to direct the drones, whether they are biological or mechanical (and they should probably be both)
