thank the book lore authors for this altho i think while its true that halo was originally made by dudebros who liked certain aesthetics, it can simultaneously be argued w out contradicting that argument that the aesthetics they adopted made it way too easy to be critiqued from an ideological standpoint and/or the aesthetics and power relations pulled to inspired the haloverse pulled were just echoes from their time period's contemporary political atmosphere regardless if little thought was put into why these relations were copied in the first place

Yes, Halo, CoD etc existed in the context of the massive militarization of US society under Dubya, but we have examples of medias that are not part of that cultural milleu also being appropriated by fascists, like 40k or Starship Trooper. So the assumption that this is something inherent in the "power relations" (?) or ideological aesthetic of the US military is not particularly convincing, esp when you realize that there are many chuds in post soviet countries and China who appropriated Red Army aesthetics
